I love Randi but
I hate it when she doe's what she just did. Thank God she doesn't do it often.

She gets a call. The caller wants to tell her a story. Something about Mexicans taking over the residential housing market from the unions out in CA. And yeah he is rambling abit. So instead of asking him to get to the point or telling him to speed it up she hangs up on him (commercial was coming) and sez, "I don't even understand these stories anymore" I hoping she meant she doesn't understand them in the context of how fucked up things are, and she was just out of time but it sounded as if she was just being a bitch to a caller who obviously liked her.

I have never called into a radio show before. Does anyone know, when those calls end are you just cut off? Does the screener prepare you for that? Maybe it's not so bad as I'm perceiving?

1. It happens a lot
Most of the time, it's nothing personal. Standard operating procedure for a lot of talk radio programs.

2. I like Randi, but agree with you
She is good when she can rant. The callers and interviews aren't her best thing. In interviews, she talks more than the person getting interviewed.

3. With most radio stations I've called in to....
they hang up on you without warning. And as for Randi....I just dont like her attitude in general which is why I dont listen to her.

5. I don't like Randi anymore. I stopped listening to her months ago.
Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 06:15 PM by Crazy Guggenheim
She cuts off too many of her callers even the ones who agree with her; for some reason.

On Edit:

I think the hosts egos are out of control at AAR.

7. I love her humor, that with her very fine research keeps me
coming back. I just can't stand it when she is a wench to someone who is obviously nervous and is a fan. What a slap in the face.

12. Amen to that
As much as I love hearing liberals on the radio and enjoy hearing them tear into morons who call in, the real value is in the facts they present, along with references so I can check them out myself.

13. I don't know about her 'research'...
I stopped listening a long time ago (and I used to listen to her when she was just on in West Palm), mainly because she got facts wrong a lot of the time. On the rare occasions I've listened to her in the last few months, she still goes off half cocked on a lot of subjects. Mind you, there isn't one radio host who ever seems to have all their facts straight all the time...

16. I think Rachel Maddow is almost always correct with the facts.
I've caught almost every talk show host getting things wrong, or mixed up, but never Rachel Maddow. She's brilliant.

28. I like that Rachel rarely talks to listeners
frankly, I'm pretty much sick of hearing one half-informed doofus after another providing the on-air "talent" in the form of call-ins.

more patient with the Freepers that call than the liberals.

8. I've called Randi twice
The first time she just hung up. It was disconcerting until I listened to the delay and realized she'd had to go to break.

Another time, I called her and spent several minutes in a very pleasant conversation. We ended the call the way you would with a friend, "bye." In my experience listening to her, she does that more than other call-in hosts.

One time she got really over-the-line with a sympathetic caller and was very angry and wouldn't let him talk. The next day, she apologized and asked him to call back. The day after that she read a long e-mail from him and apologized again.

Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 06:26 PM by Crazy Guggenheim
who **WANT AND NEED A LIBERAL TALK SHOW** are turned off by her - Malloy for that matter too! AAR has to remember that though there is a need we are not going to put with the rude hosts. In a sense, we brought them into this and we can them out too!! The have to learn to get along with people on the same side!

I haven't heard him be rude to anyone but Flying Monkeys. What few ever call his show certainly do get the red ass, but not liberal callers. Where's the beef?

29. If that's how she thinks no problem then. Because I haven't listened.
BTW, sometime back I had RR listener's thread and so tired of her talking about her looks and general rudeness that I just gave up on her.

If she doesn't care then she's not what I want to hear.

25. I like Randi just fine
but I can't stand listening to that horrible obnoxious advertising that goes on for 5 minutes, then the show comes on for seems like 45 seconds and they are back to blasting their advertising again. I found a feed that plays some sort of scratchy music over and over instead of ads which is marginally better but but I get rather tired of that repetition too.

That's why I rarely listen.

31. Mike's usually nicer to callers than Randi is.
Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 07:24 PM by CaseyBuck
For example, a few weeks ago, Cassie was a scared and nervous, 14 year old caller whose only guardian (her brother) was to be sent off to Iraq. He held her over a whopping 3 segments, and didn't talk down to her once. Mike is usually pretty good with supportive callers, unless they tend to drone on, in which case, he pulls out his "ice pick". That is better than rudely hanging up, and he holds callers over a break if he takes them too close to a break.

He also does his occasional "Kids Night" programs when 13-17 year olds call in all night; he treats them with class, even the occasional conservative kid.

If Randi would adopt some of Mike's class, while retaining her humor, she would be much better.
