2. The last time Mexico let Americans do what they wanted in their country...
Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 06:07 PM by IanDB1
we ended up taking Texas from them by force.

I really don't blame Mexico for telling us to butt-out.

And they come here to take the crappy jobs while we go there and want the good ones... and wonder why they all want to come here?

If we go there and take THEIR jobs, won't more of them just have to come here?

Republicans are silly folk.

PS: I think that article was written as satire.

5. Well, in typically small-minded right-wing fashion
the "satirist" is focusing on the one aspect of the issue that validates his perspective, the legal aspect, while ignoring all the other aspects - historical, economic, geopolitical, etc. - that make the issue more complicated than he's willing to deal with.

8. Deffinitely satire
<snip>

Robert Ferguson, an American resident in another Latin American city had this to say: “When I came here with money and stayed at five-star hotels, they were treating me so nicely, and everybody was so friendly to me and respectful and all that. I had dates with beautiful ladies. I was like a king here. When I ran out of money, the people turned into devils. The smiles just disappeared. They are treating me like a dog now. Nobody will give me a job. I have been to hundreds of places. Here, if your last name is not Gomez, Lopez, or Rodriguez, you cannot work anywhere. Nobody will even consider you. They do not want a poor American, a poor foreigner to be a burden on their economy. They are so nationalistic and racist! What can I do? I am starving. Please, American Embassy, take me home! Somebody, please help! You can send me money by Western Union”.

Oh yeah. Right.

9. I was looking into moving to Cozumel, Mexico a couple years ago...
and I was told that they can only hire a foreigner if there is a reason a local can't do the job. For example, silly American tourists feel more comfortable dealing with Americans at the shops and time share hotels, so they can hire Americans. Lots of places will still hire Americans, and pay them under the table like we do with foreign workers here. But I think Mexico has more of a right to restrict foreign workers than we do, because good jobs are so hard to come by there. Sure, things aren't fantastic here right now, but try making an average living on pesos, and you'll realize how good we've got it!

10. That particualr story may be satire, but I have heard MANY times
that V. Fox wants to be a big part of the US immigration program, but Mexico has a LAW that says NOBODY can have any part in any rules in Mexico.

I don't think the US has any right to insert itself into Mexican law, but I sure don't think Fox has any right to insert himself into US law either!

11. Well, why wouldn't they fly American flags
and sing "Oh, say can you see..." when protesting in Mexico? Makes all the sense in the world.

:sarcasm:
