I'm deadly serious. The country simply would not be in the mess it finds itself had "the media" actually performed its traditional role of actually reporting and investigating, instead of parroting and cheerleading.

Fuck Bush. When will Blitzer, Hannity, O'Reilly, Couric, et al, be frog marched before the court?

2. I'm sorry, did they break a law?
Last I checked, lack of integrity and poor job performance were not illegal.

And where would it end? I write for a newspaper. You comin' after me next, tough guy?

4. Well, at least they should be fired...
for that "poor job performance", right? There must be hundreds of qualified journalists in line for Blitzer's "situation".

6. Wholeheartedly agree...
It's a travesty that Blitzer gets something like 35 hours per day on CNN. Why not bump Christiane Amanpour into the newsroom? She'd do an infinitely better job.

Of course, she'd probably turn it down, but still...

13. "35 hours per day on CNN..."

That's a conservative estimate, IMO. Hey, you're NOT a conservative are you?

:)

edited to add: Agree with you about Amanpour - she's one of the best, if not the best.

5. How about complicity?
They knew. Hell, WE KNEW. These were the supposed "professional" journalists, yet any average every day DUer was reporting on real facts while these ass lickers were simply, obviously, propping up the president. I suppose the real test would come when/if we were able to prove that the media outlets were beholden to BushCo.

7. we get what we deserve
they call it "news" fair and balanced, people watch, validating the commercial investment.

they have perfected the skill of lying by ommission .... catapulting the masses into an existance of fear and consumerism.

3. Well, according to BU$HCO ...
... EVERYTHING that's gone wrong in Iraq is the media's fault. I guess that will be THEIR defence when the trials start ...

8. Julius Streicher was found guilty of crimes against humanity
at the Nuremberg War Crimes Trial and sentenced to death on October 1, 1946
For his twenty-five years of speaking, writing, and preaching hatred of the Jews, Streicher was widely known as " Jew-Baiter Number One." In his speeches and articles, week after week, month after month, he infected the German mind with the virus of anti-Semitism. and incited the German people to active persecution. Each issue of " Der Sturmer", which reached a circulation of 600,000 in 1935, was filled with such articles, often lewd and disgusting.

Streicher's incitement to murder and extermination at the time when Jews in the East were being killed under the most horrible conditions clearly constitutes persecution on political and racial grounds in connection with war crimes as defined by the Charter, and constitutes a crime against humanity.

9. They didn't do it last time either
In 2004, Bagdikian's revised and expanded book, The New Media Monopoly, shows that only 5 huge corporations -- Time Warner, Disney, Murdoch's News Corporation, Bertelsmann of Germany, and Viacom (formerly CBS) -- now control most of the media industry in the U.S. General Electric's NBC is a close sixth.

Isn't that Bertelsmann as in Hitler's publisher?

14. No, because there's no obligation for the media to do anything.
If the mainstream media doesn't present the facts the way you want them, turn to other sources. The news networks are more beholden to ratings and their corporate sponsors than they are to journalistic integrity...and it's their prerogative.
