Does anyone know somebody in the gas business?
I stop at the same station every day on the way to work. Today, one of the new owners was on the phone, and part of the conversation went "...$2.899, 2.999, and 3.099? Holy shit, there's gonna be people getting fucked!" He looked at me and said "Mountain Dew Man, gas is gonna jump big."

Gas at that station is now at $2.499 for regular, and if what he said is correct that will be a 40 cent per gallon increase. He said he would warn me so I could fill up first, but it was going to be soon.

Anyone else heard anything?

2. I'm a little confused.
He was talking to a "Mountain Dew Man"? Why would a gas station owner be getting info on gasoline prices from a soda distributor? Am I misunderstanding you?

3. Sorry,
he calls me Mountain Dew Man because that is what I buy every day.

I believe that he was getting his info from his fuel broker.

4. Unleaded gas jump over 5.5 cents today.

It is traded on the NYMerc. Gas distributors raise pricing to stations when the price spikes even though the gas "in the pipeline" was sold to them at the former market price. Easy money.

Edited for clarity
