15. I wasn't saying that was a good thing, just a fact. Maybe if the media
wasn't so "liberal".

3. The "war" doesn't directly affect people
We are not sacrificing as a nation and don't feel "war".

This immigration bill directly affects many immigrants.

9. People do show up. They are just not covered by the media to this extent.
Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 03:40 PM by BrklynLiberal
The only pics you see are those posted by DU members!

When I went to the anti-war march in DC, I did not see even one media rep there. No cameras, no reporters. NOTHING!! You had to look with a microscope thru the paper to find any pics.
CSPAN had the only TV coverage, and they covered only one view, not the hundreds of thousands of excited and exciting and diverse marchers. You only saw one stage where there were hours of boring speakers.

11. If such an impressive number turned out for an anti-war march
I am guessing there would be many arrests, and likely brutality toward the protesters (if not outright shooting at the crowd) by law enforcement. I'm SO happy this is not happening with the immigration demonstrations - but I really believe it would happen if they were peace protests.

DJ's on the radio put out the call. We need this. There are a lot of people who would show up if they had the information.

14. they are protecting their own immediate self-interest
not an abstract ideal.

Easier to motivate that way.

18. Whyt bother? There's no draft so its not gonna affect me or my son.....
When the draft returns (early during McCain's first term) then you'll see real protests in the street but not before. People are lazya nd apathetic when their personal interests aren't involved...

19. It's already affecting you...have you looked at the gasoline....
...prices in your area lately? How about your utility bills? Have you noticed a major drop in social services?

"People are lazya nd apathetic when their personal interests aren't involved...". You certainly proved that point, didn't you?

20. Yes I've noticed that gas prices are rising steadily and that my utilities
are outrageous. Social services have dwindled into nearly nothing. I have no idea what that has to do with my point which is the following: since young people are in no danger of being drafted, they and their parents have no practical necessity to involve them in antiwar activities. This is why antiwar rallies only turn out a few thousand protesters while immigration rallies produce hundreds of thousands.

And, yes, most people are lazy and apathetic when their personal interests are involved. Thats not original insight on my part-its pretty easily observable to anyone with the intelligence of a five year old.

As to your weak attempt at rudeness, I'll just let it pass. You know nothing at all about me yet jump to unfounded conclusions based on nothing other than your desire to be rude. I assume you form all your opinions that way, and will be sure to give them the respect they deserve in the future.
