Court-martial the Commander-In-Chief ? Just a thought
Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 01:59 PM by EVDebs
If impeachment is out, if censure is out, if congressional investigations are out, then what on God's green earth is left ?

I've heard that the entire Iraq adventure was brought about with the help of Iranian intelligence, according to the DIA's Pat Lang, who said it was 'good work, and I admire good work'. Aiding and abetting the enemy is what our pseudo-intelligence agencies (OSP and WHIG) did.

Accountability, anyone ?

1. I'd like to see him recalled to active duty
and then court martialed for desertion; reduced in rank to E-1 and given a dishonorable discharge. It would not be the first time such a thing happened to a deserter and no doubt bush is a deserter walking free in our country.

9. it would be nice if he could be deployed overseas ...
If not Iraq or Afghanistan (those poor countries have been traumatized enough!), at least somewhere scalding-hot. Bush frequently brags about how tough he is, and forces his staff to go out jogging -- the winners get "Hundred Degree Club" T-shirts, and the ones who faint or can't keep up get taunted.

Thing is -- Bush himself has always been able to seek refuge in a nice air-conditioned vehicle or country club, with unlimited access to showers and cool drinks. I wonder what would happen if he were forced to live in >90F conditions, with no showers or ice -- like the troops who are getting sick from heatstroke and bad water (because his cronies at Halliburton aren't doing their job)? He would probably cry like a baby after a week of sand in his undies and biting flies, with only 2 litres of brackish water per day (and being forced to walk around with a heavy pack and body armor in the hot sun). And I think that it would shatter his self-image as the Tough Texan.

4. War crimes and the Hague is junior's next stop.
I don't think the president can be legally tried by a military court.

5. After his term is up, or he resigns (the honorable thing), whichever comes
first. He then can stand trial, if I'm not mistaken.

7. but it would be a bad, bad, idea
the President is not a military officer, he is a civilian, and therefore not subject to UCMJ, which rules out a court martial.

plus, do we want to set the precedent that the military decides who's president? that tends not to work for very long.

13. nuremburg was a court for the trial of a conquered nation
it wasn't the German Military trying the German leadership. It was the US, UK and France trying the German leadership. And frankly, it was unprecedented and probably illegal (not that anyone was really complaining at the time, it was brilliantly done and transparent) but it's worth noting that those trials serve as the legal justification for Guantanamo Bay.

The Military in the US is, wisely, under direct civilian control, I will adamantly oppose anything that would weaken that control, as it is the first step towards a military state.

15. Executive orders already waiting to be signed far past first step
to martial law. You're 'behind the curve'.

Executive Orders and law code

All that's needed is a signature. Maybe censure isn't such a bad idea (since impeachment is looking so good about now ?)

14. The Hague is more appropriate
I think, as commander-in-chief he can be court martialed, but highly unlikely. The Hague is more appropriate though. The sooner the better.
