WHOA! I didn't know that. He must have given them a BUNCH of garbage to take away 90 YEARS! No wonder the repukes are nervous!:rofl::rofl:

The man in the hat sings
Who else will lobbyist Jack Abramoff take down with him?
By Edward T. Pound

For years, Jack Abramoff had it all--money, power, friends in high places. He spread campaign cash and lavish gifts around Washington, hustled fat-cat clients, and palled around with power brokers on Capitol Hill. He could do no wrong. Now, however, he is the proverbial skunk at the garden party--scorned by his big-shot friends, frightened, and facing the prospect of perhaps 10 years or more in prison.<snip>

<snip>
Until he cut his deal with the Justice Department, Abramoff, 46, had maintained stoutly that he had done nothing wrong. He and a business partner, Michael Scanlon, hauled in more than $80 million in fees from their Indian clients. Abramoff shared some of the wealth. According to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks campaign donations, he and his Indian clients gave some $4.4 million in such gifts to more than 300 lawmakers, federal candidates, and political committees over the past six years. Recently, many lawmakers began giving up the tainted funds to charity. President Bush's re-election campaign decided to give the American Heart Association the $6,000 it had received from Abramoff, his wife, and an Indian tribal client.

Abramoff's plea agreement came as no surprise. Last November, reports began circulating in Washington that he was negotiating with government prosecutors. In fact, Abramoff's team of lawyers, led by Abbe Lowell, had been in discussions with federal investigators for more than a year, according to those with knowledge of the investigation. U.S. News was told that initially, Abramoff faced the prospect of being charged with crimes that could have carried a prison term of more than 100 years. His lawyers "fought very hard for over a year," says a source, to get him a better deal.

Now, the government is preparing to reap the benefits. Investigators "will follow this guy into Congress and into the executive branch, including Interior," this person says. "Obviously, they will drain him dry about what he knows."

Bugman gave up his post because he knows that everybody Abramoff fingers will be looking to finger somebody else in exchange for leniency. What tales will Ney, Rudy and assorted other miscreant thieves tell? I'm waiting for Delay to announce he's giving up his seat.

THAT is a HUGE question! These repukes must be losin' sleep at night! They never lost sleep over all the soldiers they murdered by sending them to Iraq, but will SURELY lose sleep over THEMSELVES losing $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and getting a possible prison sentence. What did prosecutors find from Ney's wire? YEEHAW! They are running scared over this. :bounce:

67. Sorry for the late reply
Tony Rudy was Delay's deputy chief of staff before he went to Abramhoff. The lawmaker always tries to put a buffer between them and the money so it's hard to prove they did anything illegal. That won't work now. He was the link between them and would know about every single dirty dollar that came to Delay.

The prosecutors right now I'll bet anything are giving his lawyer options about how many years he would like to do. Listen for that name to be big.

and yet precise depiction of these nutjobs than in the final scene of John Grisham's book, "The Brethren".

This group of distinguished low-life scum-buckets in a country-club prison, at one time, distinguished pillars of society, managed from behind their figurative bars, to blackmail individuals on the outside. Amazingly, they even managed to get away with it, ending up in Switzerland at the tax-payers expense.

However, they were still unable to resist the lure of "crooked money", of course, and they just had to resume their old scam. When in the last scene, they ignored an ultimatium from a CIA agent, their imminent departure from this vale of tears, though unspoken, was clearly pending. It may not sound particularly funny the way I wote it, but Grisham's dry understated style is matchless for conveying black humour. Not to downplay his other literary gifts, I think it's his gift for dialogue that makes the humor work so brilliantly.

i would bet they will tell alice to fuck off...if she tries to get in their way.. they will out her ass too..they can be none to happy * put his spy in with them...but they are the big boys and they have worked hard on this ..they will not let her fuck it up!

who wants to bet.( 10 cents) that it was set up for scanlon to cop a plea first to set the stage for abramoff to be wired and catch the big boys threatening him..
abramoff i believe has had a bullet proof vest on and i believe he has had a hat on both court appearences so fbi with sniper guns could protect him...so he was easily visible...i keep saying abramoff is dead man walking and his only chance is to give the sob's up..;all of them!!

and now it all fits ..conyers said today :
Conyers: Many, many more shoes will be failling before this is over

wooooooooooooooooo hoooooooooooooooooooooooo!!

come on prosecutors get them on 9/11 ..it was no coinisidence that atta and other hijackers were on abramoffs casino boat a week before 9/11..no sireeee..no coinisidence at all!!

come on boys...bring it in!!

no wonder that fucker* put that lady in charge...
this white house is sweating fucking bullets!!...

but i pray it was too late and that there are people who will think of country before party in this prosecution!

i know i read in a miami paper ( i can't find it now in my files) that one of the three killers of the sun cruise owner is singing to the prosecution..the one who was a hit man for the gambino family...

wooooooooooooo hooooooooooooo

so many times we have gotten our hopes up that these criminals will get caught and be held accountable....lets all pray this is finally it!!

43. The "hit man" connection...is that Kidan?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/27/AR2005092700980.html

<snip>
Boulis, millionaire founder of the Miami Subs sandwich chain, sold SunCruz to Abramoff and Kidan in September 2000, at a time when Abramoff was one of Washington's most powerful lobbyists. Abramoff and Kidan were indicted last month on charges of wire fraud and conspiracy in connection with a $60 million loan they obtained to purchase the casino company.

Abramoff is at the center of a federal investigation into lobbying for Indian tribes and influence-peddling in Washington. Abramoff used contacts with GOP Reps. Tom DeLay (Tex.) and Robert W. Ney (Ohio) and their staffs as he worked to land the SunCruz deal, interviews and court records show.

The indictment in the Boulis slaying remained under seal yesterday, and authorities declined to disclose details of the charges against the defendants. Michael D. Becker, a Miami lawyer who has represented the men in other matters, said yesterday that he has not spoken to them yet.

Attorneys for Kidan and Abramoff said their clients have no knowledge about who killed Boulis. The two men were on a business trip abroad the night Boulis was shot. "Adam has cooperated with police right from the beginning. He's never been told he is a subject or a target," said Kidan's attorney, Martin Jaffe.<snip>

Your scenario is SPOT ON, IMCPO!:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

The Secret World of Jack Abramoff:Terrorists, Torpedos and Republican Muscle

by Daniel Hopsicker

<snip>

The 'secret world' of Jack Abramoff being probed by investigators today has definite connections and unmistakable links to the one inhabited during their final year in the U.S by Mohamed Atta and the other hijackers.

So as the scandal embroiling House Major Domo Tom Delay and Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff grows hotter, there may be new revelations about the 9.11 attack.

One of the most amazing thing about this most amazing scandal—hundreds of millions in slush funds beats Oval Office blowjobs by a mile—is that some of the same names in the Abramoff scandal also surface in connection with Mohamed Atta’s.

Less than a week before the 9.11 attack, for example, Atta and several other hijackers made a still-unexplained visit onboard one of Abramoff’s casino boats.

75. Very good point wildbill, Gen. Tabaga gave an honest report
and was disgusted by the torture. I read what I could and it has been a long wait for the rest and the judge that continued to order bushco to release the horrific film taken at Abu Ghraib of torture and rape of men, women and children is also courageous. We need to remember these people and keep pressuring our Congresspersons about the torture.

"Article 5 of the 1975 World Medical Association Tokyo Declaration, which US doctors are legally bound to observe through their membership of the American Medical Association, states that doctors must not undertake force-feeding under any circumstances. Dr David Nicholl, a consultant neurologist at Queen Elizabeth's hospital in Birmingham, is co-ordinating opposition to the Guantánamo doctors' actions from the international medical community. 'If I were to do what Edmondson describes in his statement, I would be referred to the General Medical Council and charged with assault,' he said.

68. This is pure spin and propoganda. Think about it...
Do you really believe that investigators from the FBI and the Interior Department, molded by Robert Mueller and Gale Norton, is going to throw the book at their crony? Don't believe that for a minute.

Let me provide a little propoganda translation:

"U.S. News was told that initially, Abramoff faced the prospect of being charged with crimes that could have carried a prison term of more than 100 years"

means

Let's be honest here everyone. Abramoff will serve until he is pardoned. Think Negroponte or Poindexter. For the defendent, he length of the sentence has never threatened to exceed January 19, 2009.

---

His lawyers "fought very hard for over a year," says a source, to get him a better deal.

means

A source says his lawyers delayed action for a year, thereby reducing any possible prison time as well as acquiring a better deal for Abrahamoff. Better than what exactly? We don't know.

---

Until he cut his deal with the Justice Department, Abramoff, 46, had maintained stoutly that he had done nothing wrong.

means

He lied. He's a liar. He's lied before for selfish interests, and he'll lie again.

---

The truth is that we had better keep a sharp eye on this prosecution. It is a wedge we can't afford to become complacent in following sceptically. Remember, these are the people who have no morals...no humanity. They will do everything in their power to save themselves.

And I also believe very little of the reports about how so MANY congress people are threatened. Stories like that are propoganda to feed news hounds like ourselves. The truth is a certain number of people are threatened and they've known it for quite some time. Deals have been made and sealed. We will never know the true breadth of this robbery of our national treasury. But we can remain alert and informed.

And when enough of us believe in the truth, this will all change.

Peace.

74. RAPID RESPONSE: Monday 1/9/06, Jack Abramoff Special
From: Rapid Response Network local@rapidresponsenetwork.org
Date: Jan 9, 2006 11:06 AM
Subject: {US} RAPID RESPONSE: Monday 1/9/06, Jack Abramoff Special

This Abramoff alert is long but it does follow a
relatively 'most to least important' path. The
Abramoff issue has many tentacles -- it is amazingly
complex and staggering in scope... Thus, it becomes
easy for our media (big and small) to take the quick
route out offering us news consumers false
equivalencies ("everybody did it") and lots of
glossing over ("abramoff-related donations").

It is up to us to keep them honest and call a spade a
spade.

----------------------------
ISSUE: False Equivalency
----------------------------

Here's a piece from Daily Kos on the dangers of how
the press is treating the Abramoff story unless we
shine the light of truth on this matter:

Abramoff: what's next and how you can help bring down
the GOP
by dengre, DailyKos.com
Wed Jan 04, 2006
http://tinyurl.com/akc72

Main points from "dengre":

- The GOP will lie. They will cherry pick slices of
data to support simple-minded myths like "Everybody
Does It" and "Abramoff gave money to Democrats."

- The press will have a very hard time with this
story, because the corruption is so one-sided. Their
"Balance Bias" will lead them to stupid examples of
balance, like treating Harry Reid's legal support from
Native American as equivalent to DeLay's $1
Million from the Russians, $500,000 from the Chinese
owners of sweatshops and God (and Jack) knows what
other bribes.

- The Public will get confused.

** THOUGHTS **

Remember a year ago how Congressional conservatives
wanted to remove ethical guidelines which bar
convicted Congressmen from serving in the leadership?
Remember how a few weeks later they reversed course
with their tails between their legs? Why is it that
the media can't remember that far back?

Luckily, since the Congressional conservatives did
keep some semblance of ethics in place no new laws or
policy guidelines are needed to prevent this
Conservative Abramoff Scandal from happening again on
either side of the aisle. What needs to happen is
simply observance of existing regulations and prompt
enforcement when violations occur... Under the
conservative-controlled Congress that has been
lacking.

Abramoff's tentacles reach in many directions and
through several means (see below) he allegedly bought
influence from the likes of Republicans Bob Ney, Tom
DeLay, etc. That influence came in the form of
political pressure, vote changes, and policy
influence...

See this "Late Edition" (CNN, 1/8/06) video
<http://tinyurl.com/bsyoj> or read this transcript
<http://tinyurl.com/a77m5> to learn how the media's
false equivalency in this matter can be easily and
swiftly shot down.

Be firm in stating that the records clearly show this
is a purely Republican scandal. Yes, Democratic
politicians received legitimate donation from some of
Abramoff's clients and yes, a very few Democratic
staffers left their positions in the government to
work for Abramoff. Those are in fact legitimate
activities which Americans and politicians of all
stripes legally participate in every day -- no big
deal and but a small portion of the many Abramoff
tentacles.

But, the Federal Election Commission
<http://tinyurl.com/duzeo> and IRS records
<http://tinyurl.com/9czmm> show that the political
donations and sham charity gifts connected to Abramoff
himself went solely to conservative politicians,
committees, and activities. While the political
donations are probably somewhat legitimate activity
(whereas fraudulent charitable activities would
clearly violate the law) the cumulative effect does
show precisely where Abramoff's sympathies lie: he is
a conservative through and through.

Moving into the more shadey areas... not a single
Democrat has been found to have received fantasy golf
junkets, trips to tropical islands, expensive dinners
and sports tickets, jobs or favors for family and
friends, etc....

More important, not a single Democrat has been found
to have gone to such great lengths in exchange for
Abramoff largesse as to force vote changes, tweak
Abramoff 'adversaries' in speeches on the House floor,
etc after receiving Abramoff largesse. This is
point-blank evidence of the Conservative Culture of
Corruption, pure and simple.

!!!
In fact, obviously enough, the progressives aren't in
power. The right-wing is -- and the conservatives are
the politicians who received the vast majority of
Abramoff's largesse (Abramoff's direct donations went
solely to conservative pols, PACs, and activists with
the large bulk of "Abramoff-related" loot going to the
right as well, notably the apparently fraudulent and
influence-peddling loot).

** ACTION **

- Write your local paper and your favorite major daily
- Call-in to radio programs
- Email or call TV shows
- Watch for false equivalency and correct it
- Speak up in 'water cooler conversations' around your
office

Let the bright light of truth shine through.

Park the responsibility for this firmly at the
doorstep of those who have the power to fix it: The
conservatives in control of Congress. It is they who
must end this apparent Conservative Culture of
Corruption and cut Abramoff's tentacles out of the
right-wing's halls of power (not just Congress but
also the White House and right-wing committees, think
tanks and activities). Some of this has begun (with
Abramoff cronies pleading guilty and the Cato
Institute and Copley News Service removing Abramoff's
payola-columnist Doug Bandow
<http://tinyurl.com/b9pnf>). Much more needs to be
done.

Again, who's in charge nowadays? Conservatives control
all three branches of government and Abramoff, a
conservative activist, was one of their own. This is a
mess of their making and unless things change next
November they must be the ones to mop it up.

** POINTS FROM THE WA PO ARTICLE **

Main points to remember from the 12/29/05 WaPo
article:

- ...how Abramoff saw himself --
> the power behind the scenes who directed millions of
dollars in Indian gambling proceeds to favored
lawmakers,
> the puppet master who pulled the strings of
officials in key places,
> the businessman who was building an international
casino empire

- He collected unprecedented sums -- tens of millions
of dollars -- from casino-rich Indian tribes.

- Lawmakers and their aides packed his restaurants and
skyboxes and jetted off with him on golf trips to
Scotland and the Pacific island of Saipan.

- Abramoff offered jobs and other favors to
well-placed congressional staffers and executive
branch officials.

- He pushed his own associates for government
positions, from which they, too, could help him.

- A quarter of a century ago, Abramoff and anti-tax
crusader Grover Norquist were fellow Young Turks of
the Reagan revolution. ...They moved to Washington,
maneuvered to take over the College Republicans -- at
the time a sleepy establishment organization -- and
transformed it into a right-wing activist group. They
were joined by Ralph Reed, an ambitious Georgian whose
later Christian conversion would fuel his rise to
national political prominence.

{Recall that Karl Rove had his rise through the
College Republicans also.}

- In August 1999, he {Abramoff} signed up for the
National Republican Senatorial Committee's "Tartan
Invitational," in which a half-dozen Republican
senators and their aides spent a few days with about
50 lobbyists golfing at the exclusive St. Andrews
Links in Scotland.

The following year, Abramoff figured out how to use
his clients to fund his own trips to St. Andrews with
lawmakers. The first guests were DeLay and his aides.

- Abramoff quietly paid op-ed columnists thousands of
dollars to write favorably about his clients,
including one writer for Copley News Service who
disclosed this month that he had been paid for as many
as two dozen columns

- Bill padding was openly discussed, according to
Abramoff's Greenberg Traurig e-mails that have been
released by the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. For
example, in April 2000, Abramoff had lobbyist Shawn
Vasell working on a monthly invoice to the Mississippi
Band of Choctaw Indians, telling him to "be sure we
hit the $150k minimum. If you need to add time for me,
let me know."

An exasperated Vasell e-mailed back: "You only had 2
hours. We are not even close to this number . . . ."
Abramoff's solution: "Add 60 hours for me," and "pump
up" the hours for three or four other lobbyists.

- The nonprofit Capital Athletic Foundation, for
example, allowed him to schmooze with Washington's
movers and shakers at charity affairs.

The foundation was ostensibly created to help
inner-city children through organized sports. There is
no evidence money went to city kids, but the
foundation did fund some of Abramoff's pet projects: a
sniper school for Israelis in the West Bank, a golf
trip to Scotland for Ohio congressman Ney and others,
and a Jewish religious academy in Columbia that
Abramoff founded and where he sent his children to be
educated.

- Another Abramoff financial vehicle was the nonprofit
American International Center, a Rehoboth Beach, Del.,
"think tank" set up by Scanlon, who staffed it with
beach friends from his summer job as a lifeguard. The
center became a means for Abramoff and Scanlon to take
money from foreign clients that they did not want to
officially represent. Some of the funds came from the
government of Malaysia. Banks and oil companies there
were making deals in Sudan, where U.S. companies were
barred on human rights grounds. Sudan was among
several oil-rich nations in Africa, Asia and the
Middle East that Abramoff eyed as venues for lucrative
energy deals. Abramoff told associates he wanted to
become a go-to person for U.S. companies seeking to do
business with oil-patch nations.
