Hi, My name is Jeff and I'm a DU addict
I know it's something none of us wants to admit, but I find myself doing anything to keep up with what's going on in DU. Worse than that, I'm also a progresive radio junkie. I can go 24/7 listening to Stephanie Miller, Thom Hartmann, Randi Rhodes, Bob Kinkaid, Mike Malloy, Bernie Ward (or Doug Basham or Mike Webb), Ray Taliafaro, Bill Press, Rachel Maddow, the list goes on. I try and break the chain and take care of other important things, but before I know it, I'm back here hitting the F5 key to see what's new. I know how bad it is. I need to do my taxes and buy tires for the car, but I keep putting it off. I need help. I need my DU, but I need to put it in perspective. I hope you can help me find some balance. It's hard to admit, but there can be too much of a good thing.

2. File for an extension on your taxes. It'll give you until August 15,
and as long as you've paid, it won't make any difference.

As for the tires, you don't need to worry about that because you have no time to drive anywhere.

3. If you are serious, see a therapist
They can give you some ideas of how to cut back.

4. I hear you, brother. I too am an addict.
I see it as part of my post election stress disorder--an obsession with ridding the world of the pestilence that to many of our fellow citizens--not to mention the Diebold corporation, have visited on our world.

Besides its alot more fun than doing the laundry.

6. Why we are addicted to DU...
We are addicted to DU and progressive radio because the situation in the real world is so awful. The crimes of the bu$h regime and their republican cohorts is so dreadfully that we all need a safe haven. DU and progressive radio shows provide those outlets letting us escape to a better place.

9. Hi, my name is Annie and I'm addicted to Truth.
I hear so much that's just bizzaro from neighbors, family and the occasional wing nut on any cable "news" you happen upon, I have to get a "fix" of Truth every day. Depending on the radicalness (?) of the spin machine, I might catch up on DU many, many times during the day. I have been disabled for 10 years now, so it's hard for me to key in my thoughts like so many on this board who speak so eloquently -- it truly gets me through the day and night to know there are still Americans who actually think and want truth and not spin.

16. Taper off a little at a time
I'm trying that. Now that the weather is getting better, I don't feel the need to hunker down and spend hours at the computer. Other things I am doing to lessen DU obsession:

1. PLanning a trip to several cities and towns in Italy next fall. Mapping out churches and museums in Rome where there are art treasures I want to see.

2. Giving away several years' worth of my old clothing to Goodwill. Not junk, good stuff I have grown tired of and no longer use. Clearing out closets is a cleansing process.

3. Visiting granddaughters and talking politics with my son in law who is a political consultant in Boston (working on Biden's campaign; we have genial disagreements about that!).

4. Figuring out how to get my absentee ballot for the August 8 primary between Ned Lamont and Joe Lieberman.

5. Volunteering for Ned Lamont.

6. Trying to cook one new dish every month or so instead of making fast, easy stuff.

7. Forcing myself to get the car washed and vacuumed.

8. Browsing quietly in the public library.

Put together a list of your own! Gotta go now, I have to shower in time to hear Stephanie Miller's show.
