If YOU lived in Mexico, Iran, etc, would you immigrate to US?
Why would you come here? What would you risk to get here? Would you come here illegally or work through the legal channels?

What country would (if you live here in US) like to go to, and would you go there illegally or through proper channels?

1. The question is too broad
There are wealthy elites in all those countries who have no
reason whatsoever to leave their little paradise. Their privileged
position at home is just fine to them. It's the impoverished masses
that are willing to risk everything to leave--after all, if you have
nothing, risking everything is risking nothing.

An Iranian exile friend of mine made an interesting comment: he said
that originally the Iranian revolution was made by the middle class,
who didn't realize what a mess they were getting themselves into.
He said that in the Arab world, it's the impoverished who revolt and
fight. In Iran, it's the people with money who revlot and fight, and
regret at leisure, as the saying goes. He was laughing when he said it,
but then, he grew up in Germany. His parents got out in time.

2. I don't understand why people from India and Mexico want to come
to the US. Supposedly they are getting a lot of our jobs. But I guess they are getting those jobs at one tenth of what corporations pay here.

5. My parents immigrated here from India.
I imagine it was to find opportunity.

4. Not any more, not with the anger and hatred being
directed at immigrants by both the right and even many of those who claim to be on the left. There is no room left in America for those who wish to better themselves and improve their children's lives.
