Re: mexican immigrants and "cutting the line"
There are three ways to get "in line" and get a green card (the green card is the first step needed to apply for citizenship).

One way to get a green card is to be sponsored by your employer and you must prove that you can do work that no american can do.

The second way to get a green card is to marry an american.

The third is to enter a lottery.

Mexico is one of several countries whose citizens CANNOT enter the lottery for a green card. That leaves the other two options.

In reality, there is no line for working class and impoverished mexicans to wait in.

1. We can implement a temporary guest worker program and when their time
is up, they go back. With all the dollars earned here, they will live much better in Mexico than they can here.

This country CANNOT absorb all the world's unhappy poor people. It's a simple fact. Time for the Mexican people to rise up and clean their own house a la France, 1793.

3. Agreed - I wish there was more discussion on the corrupt gov't
of Mexico. The international community should be screaming from the rafters about Mexico. It's such a beautiful country with so many resources that should be supporting a healthy middle class.

However, what to do with all the peeps who are here now. The people who are living here and are a part of our communities? When people say they need to go get back in line and come here legally, in terms of Mexicans that's just bs. There is no line for them to get in.

4. By that logic, I should be able to get any job I want because
I'm older than anyone and was here first.

5. IT IS A CRIME FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIEnS TO COME HERE and SENSENBRENNER and
Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 01:25 AM by flordehinojos
his ilk want them out!!! They talk about the great dollars they make here. They talk about them as if they are criminals. They get paid minimum wages. They do not get health benefits. They have to pay for a place to stay, the food they eat, the clothes they wear, the transportation that carries them to and from work... i don't think they are making any big buckaroos and many of them have social security numbers, given to them by the united states government, they pay taxes, and they live and honest life.

BUT WHY IS IT NOT A CRIME FOR SENSENBRENNER AND HIS ILK TO MOVE THEIR KOTEX FACTORES OR WHATEVER OTHER KINDS OF FACTORIES TO MEXICO, SALVADOR, HONDURAS, NICARAGUA, INDIA, PAKISTAN, CHINA OR WHEREVER... pay those workers there 40 cents a day, or something similar WHICH SPELLS EXPLOITATION in addition to the fact that moving their factories overseas leaves many here unemployed.

NO. OF COURSE THAT WOULD NOT BE A CRIME. SENSENBRENNER IS WHITE. HE MAKES BIG BUCKS FROM HIS KOTEX FACTORY AND HE DONATES BIG BUCKS TO BUSH CRIME FAMILY--that is why that is not a crime.

7. just heard Lou Dobbs say it again - "cutting the line"
"jumping ahead of the line"

To repeat...most of the illegals from Mexico don't have a fucking line to stand in. Ergh!

8. You fail to mention that
twenty years ago there was an amnesty for about three million illegal aliens (we used to be able to call them that), most of them Hispanic. You also fail to mention that upon attaining green card or citizenship status, these newly minted legal residents were able to sponsor family members. This allowed many to immigrate here legally which in turn allows those sponsored to sponsor others.

9. Who says there has to be?
Why is it that so many people think that entry into this country is a right for poor people of other countries, our laws be damned?

10. You're overthinking my post. I'm just referring to the fact that people
keep saying they're "jumping the line" when for many people there really is no line.

My sister's partner is a British citizen. The marriage option for a green card is not available to her, obviously. Also, like Mexico, the UK is not allowed to participate in the lottery either. The type of work she does would not qualify her to get a green card by having her employer sponsor her. For her, there is no line to get in. Just saying.

11. I have never heard anyone say that. I've heard people say
that a "fast track" to citizenship for illegals would allow people to jump the line and get it done before people here legally could, but I've never heard anyone say that the line is being jumped now. It's either being stood in (by people here legally) or blown off.

13. Trust me - they say it all the time. Illegals are jumping the line
ahead of people who are trying to come here legally. They say they have "no problem" with mexicans who come here legally but they are pissed off over the ones who "jump the line" and come in illegally.

The opportunities for mexicans to come here legally, in a frigging line, are few and far between.

14. Well, not to nitpick, but
if the illegals just ignore the law and come here, collect services and get a job while there are people who stay in Mexico trying in vain to find a legal way, aren't the illegals actually jumping the line anyway? I still haven't heard it said, and I'm not trying to get in your face, but I'm honestly not so sure the phrase is so invalid.
