Pink's new album and a song titled "Dear Mr. President"
I've listened to Pink before but never enjoyed her material enough to start forking over cash for a whole album worth. But her new opus, entitled "I'm Not Dead", is some top shelf work.

However, one song, "Dear Mr. President", is really fantastic!

Here are some of the lyrics, but I've left out the most dramatic moments of the song for you all to discover on your own. Enjoy:

"How can you say no child is left behind?
We're not dumb and we're not blind.
They're all sitting in your cells,
While you pave the road to hell."

... and ...

"I can only imagine what the First Lady has to say...
'You've come a long way, from whiskey and cocaine.'"

Great stuff! Look for the album's general release the first week of April if you're interested.

3. Me, too. I was just staring at the cover of "Ummagumma" and then back
to the laptop screen, so of course I thought Pink Floyd immediately. (I ordered the 1994 EMI remaster import with the die-cut box and a poster.)

9. It has the unexpurgated cover, where the album cover on the floor in
the cover photograph is clearly the soundtrack to "Gigi." It was whited out in the American version and for years, it bugged me and I wondered what it was supposed to be.

4. At first I thought you meant Pink Floyd, and I was overjoyed....
but then I see its plain ol' Pink from pennsylvania. Oh well. But good for her, even though it will never get any play on the airwaves. The Dixie Chicks have some new album out but the country stations, I hear, refuse to play it.

24. Because thats how I identify her. "Are you talking about
Pink FLOYD or Pink from down the street." She used to live near me before she became famous.

12. My friend and I went to a Bette Midler concert, and when it came
time for Bette to do "The Rose", Pink came out on stage and sang with her, and actually finished the song. She was very good and I remarked to my friend about how much guts that takes to sing a legend's song right in front of her. I was very impressed and I am now a Pink fan. She has the potential to be awesome if given the right songs.

It's good to see some of these stars with a little bit of brain power. They don't all have to be like Britney/Jessica etc.

16. She's one of the few of her contemporaries that speaks out
against this administration. She's pro-choice, and was more than a little pissed that so many others in her age range had so little to say about what's been going on in this country. I read a fantastic interview with her a while ago-- I liked her anger!

;)

17. Silly, nobody buy the Full CD anymore, that's what i-Tunes is for...
...Oh, that's nobody buy the Full Album anymore, for all of us who grew up with Vinyl Records.

And BTW, David Gilmore does have a new CD out that they say is a great throw back to his Pink Floyd days. Here's a Review: <http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5250123>

Former 'Pink Floyd' Guitarist Releases Solo Album

Listen to this story...(at link above)

All Things Considered, March 7, 2006 · Rock guitar has been trending louder, faster and more flamboyant. An exception is guitarist and singer David Gilmour. He hasn't put out a studio recording in 12 years, since Pink Floyd's The Division Bell. The drought ends this week with Gilmour's solo album, On an Island.

20. If iTunes ever replaces CD's, I will give up on contemporary music...
iTunes is a DRM-loaded nightmare... ugh.

25. Sorry, I don't know what DRM means, please explain.
BTW, the reason I say that about i-tunes (or any of the download sites were you can download singles, like Real <http://musicstore.real.com/music_store/home>, mp3.com etc.), is because the mega music production corporations don't really care what their artist put on the rest of the CD, as long as they have one or two good songs on the CD which will get the consumer to spend their $17.99 for one or two songs.

18. Some other lyrics I like
On the TFT album just come out, they did a version of
"When Johnnie Comes Marching Home" redone as "When Johnnie
Comes Rolling Home." It's on "Sing Along With The Republicans."

One of the verses:

The White House thinks they did the job IRAQ, IRAQ!
They never heard our Johnny sob, IRAQ, IRAQ!
They never found what they went to find,
And they give no thought to those left behind.
Bush will NOT be there when Johnny comes rolling home.

www.thefreedomtoast.com

They have a free sample clip from it on their website.

There is a lot of really good music coming out now with
political themes. It's one of the few things the right
wing hasn't yet found a way to suppress.
