Act Now! "U.S. CONSTITUTION -- DO NOT SHRED"
Edited on Mon Mar-27-06 05:13 PM by The Witch
Edit: Yet another way to fax online, from Redd's commenters.

THANK YOU for getting this on greatest, folks! Here is an action item EVERYONE can do.

Firedoglake is running a wonderful fax campaign that everyone here can participate in. She provides fax numbers and a way to fax online. Her campaign is VERY simple: Fax the members of the Judiciary Committee to let them know how you feel about the wiretaps. You can say whatever you want, but the top of your fax should say:

U.S. Constitution -- DO NOT SHRED

I know that if we get the power of DU behind this, it can be wildly successful. Thanks to the DUers who have tried to promote this, including TuesdayMorning and those who got this post up where lots of folks will see it.

In case you care, the text of my fax is here. I did a Mission Impossible theme...

Let's go, folks! :yourock:

1. My Fax...
U.S. Constitution: Do Not Shred

Senator,

The coming weeks will be a historic moment, a pivotal moment in American history. Will the Senate Judiciary Committee scrap the constitution and allow the current President unlimited powers, will they reduce the constitution to rhetoric, or will they uphold our constitution? History is in your hands.

Your choice is to uphold the checks and balances, or allow the President (and all future Presidents) to continue overriding the peoples (via the senate) wishes, via “signing statements”. In fact why not allow the President to just make the policies he wants and disband the Senate? We would certainly save some money and reduce the budget that way. I would fully expect the senate to loose their pensions if this happens, like the workers for the airlines and probably the auto industry, however I digress.

We are watching this moment, as in my view this is the most historic day. When the founding fathers may be finally put to bed, and the founding fathers of the new America take their place in history as the new constitutional scholars. This choice is in your hands. Do we continue to use the constitution written over 200 years ago, or do we use the constitution as written by George W Bush and Alberto Gonzales?

Which ever way this goes, you will play your part in history and your place in history will be defined in the coming weeks. Will you be a protector of the constitution, or will you rubber stamp the new constitution? Will you be remembered as a savior, a principled elected official, or will you I be remembered as somebody who was intimidated by partisan bickering and retrospectively make George W Bush’s illegal actions legal. I once received a parking ticket, would you mind making it legal to park in Chicago in a snow route? I would be deeply greatfull, I feel this is a small law to make retrospectively legal, a much smaller law than the FISA courts.

Today is your time, this could be one of the most important decisions in your political life. I empathize with the severity of the moment, I certainly hope you will make the right choice and not shred the constitution.

To hear them talk it's a war we started by attacking them. Talk about twisted..

15. Mine is short and sweet.
Senator,

We are watching what is going to happen today and Friday. Is the Senate going to be one of the three branches of government or are they going to allow the executive branch to break the law with impunity?

It is time for you to answer that question.

Thank you,

their faxes have been busy every time I have tried today.

Think they turned them off to stop getting this stuff?
