Lakewood CA immigration protest now
30+ people looks like mostly high school kids marching south on Norwalk towards Carson. traffic slowing, lots of honks, neighbors out enjoying the fun. joined a group of neighbors out on the street and heard them bashing bush:)

3. Yes! What did they say?
Good to know. I think more people would bash if given the opportunity... and if said bashing is well received:)

9. I went to Lakewood HS in Lakewood!
Wasn't too terribly political back then, but would certainly be in on this today!

12. Class of '71 here...first registered to vote on the campus of LHS
I was one of the first to vote at age 18 and registered to vote in the 1972 election. Registered as a Republican...here's why: I went to register at a table set up on the school grounds (in that quad area) and was asked which party. I replied "Independent" and was told I wouldn't be able to vote in the election. I was baffled and then said, "O.K. 'Republican'" (my family was from Kansas and my grandfather was a life-long Republican). Anyway, it turned out the person doing the registering was referring to the primary, not the general election. I quickly re-registered as an Independent and voted for McGovern in 1972. But I still received a "Thank you" from Nixon after his victory! Still have the card, somewhere.
