Possible definitions of 'it' depending on your perspective at the moment of answering and whether you accept Bush's justification or are facing reality:

1. The 'democratization' of an important part of the ME
2. Turning Iraq into a fundamentalist Iranian ally

3. The downfall of Bush and Cheney
4. The downfall of Saddam

5. Putting the second largest oil reserves under American military control
6. Putting ... under the control of god knows what...

7. Promoting stability in the ME
8. Promoting instabilitry in the ME

9. Stopping terrorists
10. Creating terrorist enemies

11. Bringing peace to the ME
12. Bringing death, destruction and unending war to the ME

13. Ruining America's reputation

and so on.
