My daughter is...
Edited on Sat Mar-25-06 11:09 AM by misternormal
... being deployed to Iraq on Monday as medic for the 101st...

I fear for her safety and her safe return. As a father, I did not raise her to participate in an unjust military action. But as a soldier, she knows she has a job to do, and she has made that abundantly clear to me.

I told her on the phone last night that my feelings toward the Bush administration has nothing to do with my support of her and the rest of the service personnel involved in Iraq, or any other theater.

God speed, and come home safe.

10. You cannot control what she does.
And I pray with you for her safe return and for the safety of all US troops and all Iraqis.

IMHO, however, that the attitude/actions of 'professionalism' and 'duty' is not the moral choice.

IMHO, the moral choice is to refuse to report for duty. It was the resistance of soldiers that ended the Vietnam war.

You/she can view a trailer of the new movie: "Sir! No, Sir!" here: < http://www.sirnosir.com/ >

69. Not sure I agree here
Edited on Sun Mar-26-06 02:41 AM by Hippo_Tron
John Kerry served in a war that he disagreed with because he didn't believe it was fair that only poor kids had to fight. He went to Vietnam so that someone didn't have to go in his place. I find that very honorable.

Now, if she had chosen to refuse to serve, I would find that very honorable too.

100. Thank you for your response...
... I never agreed with her enlistment in the military... I served in the Army during Viet Nam, but was never placed in harm's way... I did not agree with that military action, nor do I agree with this one. But my daughter made her choice, and although it is not what I would have chosen for her, I am proud that she has matured enough to make those decisions for herself.

I am equally proud of the job that she chose to do. I know that she will do all she can for whomever may need her help.

16. Good thoughts and prayers headed with her
Please let your daughter know we are thinking of her and pray she will be safe and come home soon. I can't even imagine the concern you parents are going through when your children are sent in harm's way, but it is important for them to know that, even though we scream and yell about this war, we support our people.

Bless her heart.

31. What does she need?
I just finished a helmet liner for a soldier in Afghanistan, so my needles are empty. I'm also working up socks for another but have some yarn shopping to do. Would she like some boot socks? It would be my honor to make her anything she needs to be more comfortable. My hubby's a doc, so if she finds out she needs supplies or anything, just let me know.

I'll light a candle for her tonight. May she be kept safe, surrounded by angels, and may she come home safe and sound and soon.

35. Please do.
Maybe I should start a helmet liner anyway. I have black and tan, but for her, I might have to go to the yarn shop and get something softer and nicer but still Army colors. ;) Night duty, from what I hear, can get awfully cold and windy.

I could also start the socks, since I'm so slow. I'll go see what I've got in my stash.

That way, I can make them to fit. You can PM me whenever you think of it. I found some nice brown yarn I can get started on the socks with, and I found some other brown yarn I think I'll make the helmet liner with. It is good and soft.

97. Yay!
I found some nice chocolatey brown yarn in the stash last night that will make perfect boot socks. Let her know that they will be made however she wants--tall, short, tight, not, whatever. I can even put a design in them if she really wants. ;) I hope she's not allergic to wool, though. If she is, let me know, and I'll get her some good cotton yarn.

Our son was a medic in the Army Nationanal Guard. That, after spending 4 years in the Navy as a firefighter. He was out before bu$h TOOK office. He is now a Federal Firefighter and Medic. We are very proud of him as you must also be of your daughter. We spent lots of time sending care packages when he was on active duty. The navy was just getting email his last year in.

We still send care packages to soldiers with www.anysoldier.com

Blessings for your daughter.

We will continue to protest the war and support the troops!

I was in the 101st way back in the day. It's a great, hard charging, well trained outfit. If I had to go to war today with the Army, I would choose to go with the 101st. I hate Bush and I am against his war in Iraq, but I admire, support and respect the Soldiers.

May I be safe
May I be happy
May I be well
May I live in peace

May you be safe
May you be happy
May you be well
May you live in peace

May (name) be safe
May (name) be happy
May (name) be well
May (name) live in peace

64. I'm one of those "purist" pacifists:
and I support what you're daughter is doing--no questions asked. She is NOT adding to the bloodshed, the psychological trauma, the deaths of thousands; she's there to heal.

May she come home safely.

70. But for the grace of God go any of us.
A brave woman, your daughter.
May you be given to be just as brave.

Because you cannot expect your children to be like yourself.
But, you can, if you wish, be like your children.

71. Know what is going on...

Your daughter is caught up in the global war against democracy, which has been successful in the US.

Her idealism is being subsumed by the ideologs of convenience (international corporations).

I an certain that she will do great things; but give her the knowledge of the home-grown structure she will need to battle as well.

For example -- http://letsroll911.org/ipw-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=11233

106. The 101st is an "Air Assault" Division
Although the 101st does have some "airborne" assets, it is strictly an Air Assault division. They deploy via choppers. The 101st is a very mobile, light, infantry division, with a ton of fire power due to the Aviation battalions (all choppers) and light artillery units. It's technically an airborne unit because they attack from the sky. Soldiers at Ft. Campbell are physically fit, due to airborne style physical training. When I was there, we never ran less than four miles (except for the PT test) and the PT was hard core. In my unit, if anyone dropped out of a PT run, they had a road march in full pack on Saturday morning. If someone had a messy room in their barracks, they ended up sleeping in a tent. You know you are a Soldier when you get to Ft. Campbell, Ky. The rest of the Army should be the same way.

104. As best you can keep us all informed about your daughter.
If there truly is power in prayer she will have a safe deployment. But then again theres all that Depleted uranium over there that almost all to the troops are exposed too. I fear for her safety, hell all of uses sanity. I just want all of our mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, sisters and brothers to come home. It is for us left back here to win, if there is any winning, this war, as it was for VietNam, not us soldiers there. :hug:s and prayers to the her and her family

 I'm thrilled with him heading home, but I know it only means some others will be heading over to take his place.

This being the case, however, we'll have an extra care package each month. We'd love to send it to your daughter if you think she'd like to receive it. (Pictures colored by my children, lip balm, disposable cameras, sunscreen, etc. -- nothing too fancy, just stuff so they'll know we love them.)

Love and light, misternormal. May she come home safe.

Wishing for you added reserves of strength while she's away. I've been there - my husband deployed to Iraq in 2003. Every day you think you can't stand it another minute (the not knowing, the worry), strength will come to you. And folks at DU will be here for you.

My one friend is over there doing intelligence. He's actually a bisexual socialist. He joined the army because that's what men do in his family and they offered him quite a bit of money. He thinks the war is creating more bad than good, but he thinks the occaisonal ride in a blackhawk is really cool.

I just can't wait till he gets home.
