Anyone Remember - Bush Sr. (41) Tried to Get Relected via "Family Values?"

Who wants a an elitist seated polititician preaching about family values? Is not this the moral equivalent of Bush Jr.(43) playing the game of appealing to the radical right for support (while pretending he's Conservative)?

1. But that's the beauty of *: he doesn't come off like an elitist like his
father did. Sure, he was born in CT, but he was "reared" in Texas, making him appear to be a good ole boy (never mind it was in a very restricted, upscale part of Texas). His "aw, shucks!" routine and verbal cadence is very distinct from the Conneticutt WASP "lockjaw" diction of #41. * looks like he is one of the people. 41 looked bewildered when introduced to a cash register scanner at a grocery store.

As far as "family values", * comes off like he represents what "should be" best for ALL American families. He has said that he stopped drinking for his family, he came to Christ for his family, he's grateful for a fine wife like Laura, etc. OK, sure, he hates his parents, but that's not noticed too much. (So much for "Honor thy father and mother" bit in the Ten Commandments) And since he is "Christian of the Year" for six years straight, he's helping the far-right fundamentalist christian organizations get other non-fundamentalist christian families with "the program" by making abortion almost impossible to obtain (for now -- making it illegal would be better), frustrating women in their purchase of the Morning After Pill (these sluts should be home with their parents rather in the back seat of a car), preaching abstinence (see prior comment), curtailing debates in universities (destroy the illusion of "universal" education), destroying public education (supplant critical thinking skills with test-taking skills), etc.

This is just one of the best public relations/bullshit jobs I have ever witnessed. Part of me is really impressed when I'm not disgusted by it. This guy represents "family" and christian values as well as Elmer Gantry along with the fake sincerity.

2. When will the Dems stop taking the bait? Every time one of these
issues comes up, why don't they all reply that these are not the real issues of the day. The Republicans are trying to manipulate the people of the United States and distract them from the real issue, like the war and health care and the economy. If they all started saying it over and over and refused to be pulled into the debates, the American people would "get it".
