How will the right react if we win big in November?
Not the politicians, but the base of the right. They have been propagandized against us for so long, I'm really curious if the reaction might not be violent. Take the rhetoric you see on a site like redstate.org and replace the word "liberal" or "Democrat"
with "Jew." The parallels with Nazi propaganda are astonishing.

I'm concerned that if and when we take back congress, the result won't be a saner, chastened GOP, but it will push them over the edge, finally, into something like true fascism, not the pseudo or proto fascism they've been espousing thus far.

I'm by no means certain of this, and of course I WANT to win in November, but it has been preying on my mind of late.

Any thoughts people?

But seriously, after all the smug trash-talking and liberal-hating they've done over the past six years, I hope they squeal like a stuck pig.

whining how we all need election reform. This don't matter anyway until after we win the show, then we can enjoy watching the temper tantrums.

They're quietly ashamed of their party's antics, and they won't be able to muster many of their 30% to do much of anything.

8. Well, if a bunch of dlc types win, they will say
they act like us, and they convinced America that they were like us. The fascism that you fear will come in the form of corporate takeover of the government.
"It" hasn't happened yet, as Americans still think "that anyone can get on the ballot, and win, if they want to. After all, this is still America."
"It" has not yet sunk in.

9. Blame the 'leftist' media...
Depends if the real republicans can get the Christain Reich out of their party. The best scenario would be if Pat Robertson or some other end-of-the-world religious taliban type will run as a 3rd party candidate. Maybe they can call themselves the Wacko Party or The American Taliban.

13. They will demand an investigation of the vote tampering
by Diebold, et al, and they will find it. The implications of a liberal/progressive victory suggest calling into question the validity of all elections, from 2000 forward. Exciting!

16. cycle
They'll cower, retreat and act surprised as their leaders are being indicted, impeached and imprisoned. But Rove, or perhaps a next-generation version of Rove will probably stew and plan for 15 or 20 years, and come up with some new sort of diabolical revolution which will avenge previous defeats. There seems to by a cycle.

18. The night Clinton won in 1996, some yahoo stole a city bus in DC
(nobody inside) and rode around three states with 100 cop cars slow-motion chasing him until he ran out of gas at 2am the next morning.

The metro section of the Washington Post the next day identified him as a white male in his 30s upset about the Presidential election results.

Expect AT LEAST that level of craziness. These days, they'd probably shoot him for refusing to stop.

20. The 'base' might go nuts ...
... the Fundies will declare it the end of times, and the anti-choice crowd will predict coupons being handed out on street corners for discount abortions.

But all in all, I think the average Republican voter will heave a sigh of relief to have grown-ups back in charge - ready, willing and able to clean up the mess that the GOP kiddies have left behind.

41. So true. And I keep trying to remind people of that.
The average citizen who has traditionally voted for and supported the Republican party is even MORE pissed-off than we are with this Administration.

We KNEW what the Neo-Cons would do to this country, once they were in power. But millions of Repub voters bought the 'Compassionate Conservative' BS and are now shocked to find out that their ideals and they, themselves, have been betrayed.

BU$HCO's biggest mistake, IMHO, is that they didn't hand out special gas discount cards to their supporters, or make it a crime to outsource a Republican's job.

Once their policies started hitting their own supporters, right along with those of us who didn't buy into their crapola from day one, they stepped into it, big time.

The only chance the Repubs have now of surviving in the political wilderness is chewing off their own leg (Bush + cronies) to free themselves from the leg-hold trap they're now caught in.

The thing about these zeolots is they think that we will not fight them back....hmmm..I am just saying....I think they are going to be a wee bit surprised.

The moderates will realize how close we were to a theocracy...

30. The fundy Jesus-Taliban assholes will be booted out of the repuke party
and the repukes will go back to being financial Republicans without all the Jesus-Crispy nonsense.

That's my guess - that was an alliance forged in hell, and one that has been only tolerated, I think, by the true republicans, in order to gain votes.

But the majority of the repuke party who aren't fundy fuckjobs are gonna take their party back, they might even crucify CokeBoy, and will go back to being much closer to what they used to be.

39. Just a hunch...
I think the repukes will probably claim that the election was stolen. Unscrupulous secretaries of state, elections boards and local elections officials conspired to rig the election outcome by screwing with the polling places directly or registering and voting for non-existent, deceased, and otherwise ineligible voters. They'll claim that democrats knew all about black box voting and how it isn't secure because they've hacked the voting machines. Rural voters will have been "disenfranchised" due to long distances between where they live and polling places. They'll find a few districts where exit polls and pre-election polling didn't accurately reflect the election outcomes and cite this as evidence. If any boxes of ballots are found in dumpsters or floating in San Francisco bay it will be cited as further evidence.

Bill and Hillary used their collection of influential contacts and the information from thousands of FBI files on repukes taken from while he was president, along with millions of dollars from George Soros, the "Chi-coms", and "hollywood liberals", and labor unions to make this happen.
