Bush blasts Democrats....on FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY! Hahahahaha
Edited on Fri Mar-24-06 04:54 PM by Bluebear
President Bush, trying to regain his political footing ahead of this year's critical midterm elections, asserted Friday "the difference is clear" between the two parties on how to sustain the U.S. economic recovery.

"If you want the government in your pocket vote Democrat," Bush said. "If you want to keep more of your hard earned money vote Republican."

He made one of his strongest appeals yet for making permanent various tax cuts due to expire within several years.

Speaking at a fundraiser for GOP Rep. Mike Sodrel in what may be one of the closest races in the country, Bush attempted to draw a sharp contrast between the two parties' economic policies.

"We've got a record to stand on," Bush said.

for the 8 trillion dollar debt. Yeah, Reagan and Bush know nothing about that.

9. Here is more of this bladder:

....But he said the Democratic record consisted of "loud noises" and votes against tax cuts.

"In 2001, more than 90 percent of the congressional democrats voted against cutting income tax rates," Bush said, referring to votes on his initial package of tax cuts.

He told the Republican audience that, by overwhelming margins, Democrats also voted to reject his legislation — eventually passed — to provide tax relief for married couples, double the child credit and cut taxes on dividends and capital gains.

Noting that the economy is still recovering from the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks and a recession that lasted most of that year, Bush said, "The fundamental question in Washington is, `How do we keep this recovery going?'"

"The first thing is make the tax cuts permanent," Bush said to applause.

10. He really shouldn't be speechifying on fiscal matters.
Not one of his party's strong suits. This will probably have the usual effect his brilliant speeches have: another drop in the polls.

Edited on Fri Mar-24-06 05:05 PM by cal04
let's start the list of his "record" starting with
future generations stuck with his deficit
corporations getting tax breaks with record profits
Tax breaks for the wealthy
outsourcing jobs
Tax and borrow, with interest
Need anymore call Lou Dobbs, I'm sure he'd be happy to help the dems show his record

love this Yahoo board comment
BUSH BLAMES DEMS YET REPUBS RULE
Congress.

16. Sure we fucked up a few things Bush said, truth be told, more than a few...
Edited on Fri Mar-24-06 05:44 PM by kenny blankenship
but if me and you keep our heads, there's no reason why we can't still put this debt off on a future generation before it comes due. Screw them! We need this money to enjoy our lives now.
Oh yeah, it's ugly the books are way ugly--I've seen the numbers going out five ten twenty years--in fact it's worse than you can even imagine. You don't even want to know how bad, that's how bad it is. Now, I ask you confidentially America. I ask you as your bosom friend, with no secrets between us, I ask you as the man you twice chose, uh more or less, to be your President, do YOU really want to pay for all these mistakes? They are costly be in no doubt! Because that's what will happen if you let Democrats come in to take charge of the government. They'll talk about our national responsibilities and public trust and confidence and national credit worthiness and you'll have to pay. PAY OUT THE ASS. Look in your hearts now, do you want that? Do you really want that? Wouldn't you rather put it off as long as possible, if it's going to be that bad? Wouldn't it be worth it, worth anything, just to carry on another year as if nothing were wrong? Who knows what you might be able to do between today and the day the wolf is at the door and can't be sent away anymore. Who knows! Maybe you'll be able to strike it rich. Maybe you'll hit the lottery! Then you can take that money and skip town. Let the suckers crash and burn in your wake--I know what the Bush family will be doing that day. I know what me and Laura and Jebster will be doing when the roof falls in on America. We'll be taking it easy on our hacienda in Costa Rica, sipping tea and putting our feet up watching the campesinos pick our coffee trees high on the mountain. With some luck, that could be you too.
Don't pay a bill before it's due and past due, America, as nation founded by debt slaves that is your birthright. I urge you in your own selfish interest. Stiff the future! Keep voting Republican and we'll make these taxcuts permanent, and keep the wolf from the door as long as possible.

17. The difference IS clear - Clinton vs Bush - it doesn't get any more
clear than that.

Prosperity for almost everyone

vs

Extremely rich cronies get even more obscenely rich, don't pay any taxes on it while the rest of us have our standard of living cut, jobs outsourced and pensions defaulted on.

Damn, even the Freepers should be able to see that one.

22. "If you want to keep more of your hard earned money vote Republican."
Sadly, there are so many people who believe this. Yeah, I got a check back a few years ago for a couple hundred bucks, but in the meantime, my health care costs even with a good job and a plan are about triple what they were in 2000, gasoline is roughly double, likewise for heating costs during the warmest winter ever. Not to mention the deficits. What should I do with all that money in my pocket?
