More Katrina Lies

by Steve Soto

FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security lie to Congress again. But then, it is more important to shovel money to Joe Albaugh, Bechtel, and other Bush campaign contributors, than it is to safeguard the taxpayers’ money and deal with fraud, isn’t it?

The federal treasury is nothing more than an ATM for Bush campaign contributors.

FEMA breaks promise on Katrina contracts
Agency will extend, not rebid, deals with politically connected firms

Updated: 3:46 p.m. ET March 24, 2006
WASHINGTON - FEMA has broken its promise to reopen four multimillion-dollar no-bid contracts for Hurricane Katrina work, including three that federal auditors say wasted significant amounts of money.

Officials said they awarded the four contracts last October to speed recovery efforts that might have been slowed by competitive bidding. Some critics, however, suggested they were rewards for politically connected firms.

Acting FEMA Director R. David Paulison pledged last fall to rebid the contracts, which were awarded to Shaw Group Inc., Bechtel Corp., CH2M Hill Inc. and Fluor Corp. Later, the agency acknowledged the rebidding wouldn’t happen until February.

1. The states are going to have to assert their rights to kick these
contractors out of their states...

The local contractors are not included in the picture at all.

Each state needs to add to it's Emergency reconstruction plans that they and they alone will determine how the contracts are meted out.

This is Storm Profiteering..the states should also implement laws that address this issue also.

Sigh.....
