Bush wants cheap labor - bring in the immigrants instead.

Anticipating turbulent debate over immigration, President Bush urged Congress on Thursday to grapple with the emotional issue in a way that avoids pitting groups against each other.

(SNIP)

Bush wants Congress to create a program to allow foreigners to gain legal status in the United States for a set amount of time to do specific jobs. When the time is up, they would be required to return home without an automatic path to citizenship.

Bush said Thursday that his message is: "If you are doing a job that Americans won't do, you're welcome here for a period of time to do that job."

The president is working hand-in-hand with employers who want cheap labor to clean hotel rooms, pick crops and do other tasks that they say keep their businesses competitive. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., says he understands those economic issues, but his focus is on the main concern voiced by the social conservatives - national security.

(BIG SNIP)

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., backed by labor unions, has said he will do all he can, including filibuster, to thwart Frist's legislation. So has Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., who said legislation seeking to criminalize undocumented immigrants is not in line with Republicans' stated support for faith and values and "would literally criminalize the Good Samaritan and probably even Jesus himself."

Article has more. Much more.

No words describe this. However, I found a picture that does:

:eyes:

Well, I do have some words:

What's worth securing if your populace no longer feels secure, huh?

What's worth securing when you're not seen as worthy, huh?

What's worth securing when you say it's bad for "international business" to allow devaluation (and offshoring) yet haven't a care about the huge trade imbalance that reaches record levels every single year now... Especially when repubs were bashing Clinton time and again for the same problem, where the frig are they now? Saying a widening trade imbalance is good?! Our economy is a big part of international business - like it or not. Let it go sour and the whole world suffers. Period. You can't escape it, not even euros or gold.

1. Randi Rhodes discussed this on Lou Dobbs.
They are letting in the immigrants for cheap labor, and outsourcing all the middle class jobs.
In short, they are destroying the middle class. The BFEE and it's supporters want to take us back to a feudal society.

4. He's got another couple of years...
left in office. So nice to see him working hard on that to do list...

1. Make abortion illegal so God will like me.

2. Make lots of money for me and my friends.

3. Make daddy like me, by getting that guy that tried to kill him.

4. Take a vacation...

5. Make my bosses happy--that Cheney and Rove guy sure are tough to work for.

3. Leave it to him to find a way to exploit those
looking for opportunity in America.

This is the biggest problem I see with illegal immigration--the desire for Americans to use, abuse and then discard immigrants as cheap labor. I hate seeing people seeking a life here be used, exploited or harassed by hate groups.

This is my primary concern with illegal immigrants--their safety and welfare. I don't care how they got here. I care that they are targeted when they get here as cheap labor and scapegoats for society's problems. It disturbs me that an entire population of people CAN'T respond to such abuse, by holding the culprits responsible for fear of being deported.

The entire system on this issue is messed up and the genius has found yet another way to make it all better. :sarcasm: How lovely...:eyes: and how predictable...

5. Let the cheap labor stay and work until his term is over, then
dump the problem onto the next President. What a great guy!

6. It's not cheap laborers. They are called "guest workers".
Where these political people come up with these condescending and patronizing names, I have no idea.
