So...I walk in a room and announce I'm a Democrat and folks...........
........????

So...I walk in a room and announce I'm a "Delay/Hastet/Falwell Repuglican and folks......????

What's the reaction? Does it differ? Have any of you had that experience?

Who strokes your ego? Who makes you "put up?" Who cares what you have to say? Who checks you out? Who engages you in conversation...who shuts you out? Does it matter? Is it important?

3. What's the reaction?
"Honey, is that man drunk?"

If someone ACTUALLY did what you proposed either way, most people would probably walk away wondering if you were unstable

4. I don't generally discuss politics with people outside my
family and circle of friends unless they begin the conversation first.

Truth is, most people aren't political (in a partisan sense) and don't like discussing politics except in a generic sense, IMHO.

13. actually..
I live in one of those very red areas where the fundie preachers drove their people to the polls in big church vans last election. Thanks to the dem underground, I've become very politically active, and I was very honored to be elected vice-chair of the county Democratic party last year. On St. Patricks Day I walked into a local pub/cafe, and someone pointed to me and said, "She's vice chairman of the Democrats!" and people cheered and one lady literally bowed to me. It was big fun and a huge ego trip, although since it was a pub, I doubt the fundies were there.

I loved the reaction, but mostly it made me realize that there are people out there who are really banking on the Democratic party. I think we'll get their votes, and I think we'll win, but then we have a real obligation to live up to their expectations.
