Chavez: U.S. Has Been Routed in Iraq

By CHRISTOPHER TOOTHAKER Associated Press Writer

March 22,2006 | CARACAS, Venezuela -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Tuesday that U.S. troops have been routed by a strong resistance movement in Iraq, but haven't pulled out because officials in Washington won't acknowledge defeat.

The United States would also suffer a tremendous military defeat if the Bush administration decided to invade Iran, Chavez told a group of foreign diplomats and government supporters at the Miraflores Presidential Palace.

"The U.S. empire is defeated in Iraq, they just don't want to admit it," Chavez said to rousing applause.

<snip>

"God forbid they dare to attack Iran," he said. "We want peace, but they would eat twice as much of the dust of defeat there, I'm absolutely sure of that."

I am sorry, but I cannot find a link to this on Google. I received it via email and it was listed as being on Salon -- but I cannot find it searching Salon.com either.

1. Thanks for posting this, Indy.
I saw this article earlier today on Yahoo news so it's out there. Of course, the article didn't linger long on Yahoo!!! (No wonder) It always hurts to have a "firebrand" and a "strong man" and a "dictator" say things like that about the U.S.

But it's nonetheless true. I think Chavez also called Bush a "donkey" and a "drunken donkey" (?)

I did not include in my OP, but I feel relief at any news that suggests that this nightmare will be over soon.

2. Hugo dares to state the obvious.
While our politicians still deny it.
