So, GWB says it will be up to "future presidents"
to pull troops out of Iraq? I'm hoping he means, like, next year. Once again, our potted plant of a president has created a mess for someone else to clean up. Typical.

3. I swear he said that very line during this past election.
I think he was just trippin', cuz I swear he said that during the election (but made some cutesy remark that he hoped it would be him). Wonder if I could find that quote from 2004????

4. The ulitmate "Not My Problem" response...
When the media at that press conference should have sounded a huge WTF?!? in unison, all I heard was crickets chirping in the background.

5. Actually, I think he was referring to getting "all" troops out
He and Rummy are building permanent bases. BushCo NEVER intends to abandon those. He will indeed leave that up to some later president.

With respect to troops involved in the insurgency, expect Bush to cutback before November to help out his red colleagues.

6. Up to future presidents
to admit to the country and the world what we have known for three years...that this war was illegal and is a disaster. It will be up to this future president to "lower the flag" and take all the heat for being honest.
It will be up to future presidents to do what has been done for George W. Bush all his life...to clean up his mess.

7. I guess he figures that as long as he's leaving ...

... behind a faltering economy, an out-of-control deficit, a polluted environment, a weakened Congress & Senate, a pile of political scandals and an international image broken beyond repair, whose going to notice a little unfinished, unwinnable war?

(I'm curious about the wire-tapping machinations, though - do you think he'll leave those in place, or pack them up and take them with him?)

9. I assume they'll be left in place.
As Senator Frank Church said, once that bridge is crossed, there will be no turning back:

...At the same time, that capability at any time could be turned around on the American people and no American would have any privacy left, such {is} the capability to monitor everything: telephone conversations, telegrams, it doesn’t matter. There would be no place to hide. If this government ever became a tyranny, if a dictator ever took charge in this country, the technological capacity that the intelligence community has given the government could enable it to impose total tyranny, and there would be no way to fight back, because the most careful effort to combine together in resistance to the government, no matter how privately it was done, is within the reach of the government to know. Such is the capability of this technology...

I don’t want to see this country ever go across the bridge. I know the capacity that is there to make tyranny total in America, and we must see to it that this agency and all agencies that possess this technology operate within the law and under proper supervision, so that we never cross over that abyss. That is the abyss from which there is no return.

Sen. Frank Church

8. My God. Didn't he learn one stinking thing from Vietnam?
Man, Poppy is looking better and better all the time. His Gulf War was done, in part, to exorcise the demons of Vietnam. His idiot son has taken us back.

10. No, neither he nor the NeoCons (as if they would give a damn)
learned anything from Vietnam! It just infuriates me, too, because I lost two classmates in Vietnam and had some friends who came home very, very messed up!

I never ever believed that we'd get ourselves into another needless war... not in my lifetime, anyway.
