1. To put that in context:

According to the Census Bureau, the US population in 2000 was 298,354,991. Which means that the national debt in 2000 was just over $19,000 per person, and today it's just under $28,000 per person.

Or if you prefer: there are an estimated 60,821,996 people in America under 15 years of age (Census Bureau again), up from 60,253,375 in 2000. Which allows us to calculate that every child in America is now $43,084.71 deeper in debt than when Bush came to power.

(Edit: If you assume a long-term average interest rate of 4% (a low estimate), then Bush has personally raised taxes on the next generation by approximately $575 per person per year, and that burden is increasing.)

4. Another grim statistic
Fifteen percent of our annual GDP goes to paying just the interest on our debt. Talk about a drag on our economy, and it's just getting worse.
