When Will The Swiftboating Of Tammy Duckworth Begin?
If they can call Max Cleland's service into doubt, they can do the same with Duckworth. So what for will it take? Are they going to call into doubt her qualifications as a pilot? I hope they do attempt it, and I hope it backfires big time.

1. Were waiting for them here in vermont.
Martha Rainville is running for Bernie Sanders empty seat and has hired the swift boaters to run her ad campaign. Luckily Vermonters will probably find the ads amusing and they'll provide a good laugh.
Too bad, Seems like a nice enough women but I'm not sure she realizes who she's hired and what she's getting herself into.
Also took money from Tom Delay PAC and refuses to give it back because she is "unaware" of any scandle involving Mr Delay.

3. Hey, Monkton. Greetings from
the NEK. Personally, I can't stand Rainville. Dull as Peter Welch is, I think we'll send him to DC, and I think he'll do a stellar job. I'm not worried about the swiftboaters here. Do you remember how quickly Vermonters of all stripes got rid of Randall Terry when he set up shop in Montpelier to work against Civil Unions? You're right. Vermonters have a low tolerance for bullshit of this kind.

2. She faked losing her legs
and all good patriotic americans know the only females who fly helicopters have to be lesbians. And when she was in College she was seen in a building next to a building where a communist was suspected of being once. And the swiftboat audience will let it dribble out of their mouths and trail down their necks.

Is it a sad pathetic life they live?

4. On FR they've already started.
You know there's nothing special about her just because she was badly injured. And there's something in the info about how she tried to land the helicopter because she didn't know another pilot was landing it so of course she really wasn't flying it. And of course she's crazy for running as a Democrat. Those were the first weak efforts I saw. They haven't gotten around to calling her a liar and a traitor yet, but the Swiftboaters are probably still researching.

7. I don't believe that anyone ever questioned Senator Cleland's military
service record. Does anyone have anything to back this up?

It was a positively disgusting and reprehensible sleaze attack. Not surprisingly, this vomit spewed most noxiously from the mouths of Coulter and Malkin - cowards of the worst stripe.

Former Sen. Max Cleland defended his military service record Saturday night in response to comments from columnist and television commenter Ann Coulter that accused him of playing up injuries he suffered in the Vietnam War for political gain.
Coulter, in a column published this week, said that Cleland, who lost both legs and an arm in Vietnam, is no war hero, but rather a victim of a tragic, accidental grenade explosion who plays up his amputations for political gain.
“If Cleland had dropped a grenade on himself at Fort Dix rather than in Vietnam, he would never have been a U.S. Senator in the first place. Maybe he’d be the best pharmacist in Atlanta,” Coulter said in her column, published on February 11.
“He didn’t ‘give his limbs for his country,’ or leave them ‘on the battlefield,” Coulter said. “There was no bravery involved in dropping the grenade on himself with no enemy troops in sight.
<snip>

And yes, there's plenty more where that came from, but that was the gist of the whisper campaign used by the repukes against Cleland. Disgusting.

10. he was accused by Ann the Mann of blowing his own legs off while drunk
Edited on Wed Mar-22-06 10:20 AM by TheBaldyMan
that's why it exploded as he jumped off a helicopter in a hot LZ in Vietnam. It didn't count because it was a US grenade and he only got his purple heart on a technicality.

on edit : Ann lost her external genitalia in the first Gulf War but doesn't like to talk about it, s/he has been deep undercover on a black psyops mission ever since.

16. They tried to say he didn't come by his purple heart legitimately, IIRC.
Some BS about he wasn't a combat soldier, was in communications, so it didn't COUNT.

12. I doubt they will try, at least locally
That shit only works in red states, where the people are too ignorant to see it for what it is.

they'll probably make some noise about her living outside the 6th.

I just read an article stating that Duckworth had won. I gather there haven't been any concession speeches. Is there talk of a recount?

22. It's All But Official
98.86% reporting:

http://cbs2chicago.com/2006primaryelection?eid=15041

Name Party Votes Pct
Duckworth , Tammy Dem 14,019 43.81
Cegelis , Christine Dem 12,939 40.44
Scott , Lindy Dem 5,038 15.75

Christine put up a good campaign in an area that has been solid Repugnican turf for generations. Duckworth gave a victory statement last night and the lead widened overnight. This is close to outside MOE...and unless there's some revelation of missing ballots turning up or some other machine-related mix-up I think we can say this election is history.
