Bush Concedes Iraq War Erodes Political Status
By ELISABETH BUMILLER

... "I did notice that nobody from the Democratic Party has actually stood up and called for getting rid of the terrorist surveillance program," Mr. Bush said. He added, in a formulation similar to his campaign speeches portraying Democrats as soft on terrorism, that "they ought to stand up and say the tools we're using to protect the American people shouldn't be used."

He used the same question to take on Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the Democratic minority leader, over the antiterrorism law known as the USA Patriot Act, although no reporter had brought up either the Patriot Act or Mr. Reid.

"He openly said, as I understand, I don't want to misquote him, something along the lines that, 'We killed the Patriot Act,' " Mr. Bush said, referring to Democrats and a handful of Republicans who temporarily held up renewal of the law because of concerns that it was infringing on civil liberties. "If that's what the party believes, they ought to go around the country saying we shouldn't give people on the front line of protecting us the tools necessary to do so," Mr. Bush said.

Jim Manley, a spokesman for Mr. Reid, responded that Mr. Bush's remarks were "part of his standard talking points, but the reality is that Senator Reid strongly supported the bill that was signed into law by the president." Mr. Reid also issued a statement on Tuesday with the headline, "We see no end to Bush's dangerous incompetence."...

no one has suggested .. or at least no democrat has suggested that the FISA act be repealed.
Bush was simply using a cheap stunt... and a lie.. to deflect focus away from the truth.
The truth is that Bush broke the law ...and continues to break the law.
HE BROKE THE DAMN LAW !! How much plainer does it have to be !!! Yikes.

6. I think Dem's don't have to "argue" anymore..things are so obvious
to normal thinking people (and there's lots of those)
that all the Dem's need to do is constantly repeat the facts.
If the * Admin wants to spin/lie/twist, and they do, and they
will, Dems need only repeat Truth. Stay completely out of debates
that take them off on tangents, stay on message, stay calm,
and repeat the truth.

To bad MSM doesn't want to give too many Dem's fair air-time,
you know why though...I think it's because things are blatantly
obvious now.

10. The Terrorist Surveillance Program is What the FISA Act Authorized
Nobody wants to shut down the terrorist surveillance program, which operates under the FISA act.

It is the illegal, warrantless spying that occurs outside of FISA that must be shut down.
If the Democrats have not stood up, it is because they have been prostrated by

15. getting rid of the terrorist surveillance program,
No, no one has called for "getting rid of the terrorist surveillance program". What we have called for is quit violating the Constitution and get warrants for wiretaps and searches like the Constitution calls for.

Why doesn't anyone ask WHY they won't get the warrants required? Does Osama control the FISA Court? Has FISA been leaking to Bin Laden who is being "tapped" and searched? I don't think so.

They don't want to ask for warrants because these illegal searches have nothing to do with terrorism.
