The NRA just called me.
They told me Bill Clinton and the UN were going to take our guns from us.
I told them they were nuts and the NRA stands for Not Right Anytime. How can they call and
say shit like this to people.

1. LOL, did they really say B. Clinton? I wish some Democrat really had
that kind of power. The walking insane, that would describe the NRA.

2. Usually the calls I get are recorded autos. I still say FU and hange up!
I think there was one time it was a live person, and I'm sure they took my name off their list after my response.

10. Not mine. I either get the recording right away, or a live idiot.
I love it when I get the live ones! I realize they are just poorly paid phone bankers, but hopefully, they'll get so discusted, they'll leave that job and get another.

My hubby has a lifetime membership in the NRA. Got it many years ago when it was $125. They do call every so often, and I tell them theyve gone off the deep end and get out of my face!

3. More important, what is it going to take for people to realize
that they're a pack of fucking liars, whether it's the gun hysterics or the anti woman hysterics or the antiscience hysterics or the anti education hysterics. Not a single group of those people can manage to tell the truth, and it's sad, but a lot of uninformed people out there are buying the LIES.

I have to think that eventually most people will catch on to the fact that they're being lied to by the right 100% of the time and start to lose sympathy for the causes, themselves.

If I didn't think that, I'd despair.

23. I'm sorry, I just don't blieve that!
This is a diffucult discussion but I have corresponded with enough gun owning liberals on this forum that I really don't believe that this is a Dem/Repug issue. I believe that this is is a"freedom" issue and that the only defense we have from the corporate/faschists is the fact that"We the people" own and bear arms." God forbid that they take our guns away! I, personally , feel safer knowing that I can take some of them out while defending my home. I know that I can't take them all out, but, as Soljinitazen said, maybe they would not have been so bold if they knew, when they came to get us, that some of them would not be comming home that night!

24. But under La Pierre's "leadership", the original goals of the NRA...
have become perverted. He has turned the organization into a fund raising wing/propaganda arm for the republican party. He and his henchmen needed to be ousted from the organization. Unfortunately, I think it is too late. They are too entrenched.

6. I see the NRA..
... the same way I see PETA. I agree with the concept of gun rights, and I agree that animals should not be treated cruelly.

But both organizations go well beyond any reasonable representation of those ideas.

18. The NRA won an injunction to stop the illegal confiscations
Edited on Wed Mar-22-06 10:06 AM by benEzra
and the city of New Orleans finally agreed (this week!) to return the stolen guns, to prevent a contempt-of-court charge against the city.

Doesn't bring back the people who drowned while the police/Feds were kicking down doors in high-and-dry neighborhoods, though... :(

20. I believe in reasonable regulation of guns...
but if you define "reasonable" as outlawing civilian guns with modern styling, or saying that only hunters (20% of gun owners) have the right to own and use guns, I'd not agree with you there.

I'm for background checks, prohibition against possession/use by criminals or those adjudicated mentally incompetent, the BATFE crime gun tracing system, responsible storage, and strict controls on sound suppressed firearms, automatic weapons, over-.50-caliber weapons, disguised firearms, armor-piercing handgun ammunition, firearms undetectable by X-ray, and so on. And all of that is already Federal law.

I do own two modern-looking rifles with protruding handgrips, and my wife owns a 15-round 9mm handgun and an antique rifle with a bayonet. We oppose attempts to ban them. Does that make us "gun nuts" and "the worst," in your opinion?

Never underestimate the stupidity of Freepers.

Come to think of it, I can't really blame them for the denial of Bush. I find it hard to accept that he's in the White House too.

26. They were probably thinking about the UN Convention on Small Arms
which deals mostly with illicit arms sales to governments, but IANSA (lobbying group) is trying to get language inserted to compel ratifying countries to outlaw private ownership of many/most nonhunting guns. Regardless of NRA hyperbole on the issue, that is IMHO a legitimate concern.

BTW, does the Do Not Call registry only block calls from businesses trying to sell you stuff? I hate calls from teleproselytizers as much as I hate calls from telemarketers...
