Dems response to "Dems help Terrorists" comment from Shrub today?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/03/21/AR2006032100610.html

I note the way the question is worded (any know who asked it?) and Shrub's crafty response:

QUESTION: What, sir, do you think the impact of a discussion of impeachment and censure does to you and this office and to the nation during a time of war and in the context of the election?

BUSH: I think during these difficult times -- and they are difficult when we are at war -- the American people expect there to be an honest and open debate without needless partisanship. And that's how I view it.

I did notice that nobody from the Democratic Party has actually stood up and called for the getting rid of the terrorist surveillance program. You know, if that's what they believe, if people in the party believe that, then they ought to stand up and say it. They ought to stand up and say, "The tools we're using to protect the American people shouldn't be used." They ought to take their message to the people and say, "Vote for me. I promise we're not going to have a terrorist surveillance program."

That's what they ought to be doing. That's part of what is an open and honest debate.

BUSH: I did notice that, you know, at one point in time, they didn't think the Patriot Act ought to be reauthorized -- "they" being at least the minority leader in the Senate. He openly said, as I understand -- I don't want to misquote him -- something along the lines that "We killed the Patriot Act."

Now, if that's what the party believes, they ought to go around the country saying, "We shouldn't give the people on the front line, who are protecting us, the tools necessary to do so."

That's a debate I think the country ought to have.

I'm not taking issue with the Democratic Party here, but it seems to me that Shrub threw down a gauntlet there, and I'm wondering what the party response should be. I've read in various political reviews that the Repukes are burning for a fight on this because, with the Bully Pulpit, they can shape the verbiage.

So, did I miss it? Did the Dems respond with . . . The President Broke The Law . . . ??

Also, does Shrub realize, as I understand it, that when he says "Islamo- fascists" - a vast majority of the Muslim world thinks he's speaking against Islam and "embolding" the "Islamo-fascists"?

BUSH: There's no question that if we were to prematurely withdraw and the march to democracy were to fail, the Al Qaida would be emboldened. Terrorists groups would be emboldened. The Islamo- fascists would be emboldened. No question about that.

Just typing out loud.

1. Feingold addressed this, in an email he sent out...
"Contrary to the spin from the President we heard once again today, this issue is not about whether the government should be wiretapping terrorists - of course it should, and it can under current law. The President simply refuses to follow that law."

2. Why does it not surprise me that Feingold is the only one to comment?
Hmmm. I'm certain Russ is aware that he's test-bait, don't you think?

3. its a straw man argument
"I did notice that nobody from the Democratic Party has actually stood up and called for the getting rid of the terrorist surveillance program. Nobody is asking him to not spy. We are asking him to spy within the limits of the FISA law.

6. I watched part of it and could have sworn he said
"democrat party" instead of what regular non brainwashed people say which is democratic party. Maybe I just imagined it.
