9. I'll do my best
Naturally, Blitzer is going to tease it for a few segments.

3. We LOVE YOU Helen!
Hey, did anyone else notice that her mic was off during the Preznuts speech today? ?? Intentional or what?

4. Helen Thomas
...was a friend of my dad, who was one of the that dying breed, a Washington
journalist who cared about his principles, and not about coddling the extreme right
(or extreme left). Helen, already wobbly on her feet, was the first one there at my
dad's memorial at the National Press Club at fourteenth and F in early 2001. She
may be wobbly on her feet, but she is still as sharp as a tack, which is why Bush
is so terrified of a little lady in her eighties during his press conferences.

She has more smarts on an off day than he ever had. even if he won a double-or-
nothing bet with Mother Nature.

8. Welcome to DU, DFW! I wish there were more around
like Ms. Thomas and your dad; they surely are in the minority. Ms. THomas is also perhaps the only journalist I've heard of who personally responds to all her e-mails, and I imagine she gets many.

10. Welcome DFW
(DallasFortWorth?)I was fortunate to have an old school journalist teacher once. They are an inspiring lot. I think Jim Hightower hit the nail on the head when he compared todays batch of journalist to a cat watching the wrong mouse hole. He said that the day journalists stopped eating at the diners rubbing elbows with the common folk and switched to restaurants and rubbing elbows with the power brokers was the day journalism died. I laughed when I first heard it but I realize now that truer words were never spoken. I get a twinge of sadness when one of these old timers passes away-like we have lost something special.

14. Thanks, AnneD
Dallas Ft. Worth indeed (my home airport).
My father was president of the Washington Gridiron Club, of which Helen Thomas
is still (I think) a member. His was a generation of journalists of a style that
is rapidly becoming (or is already?)extinct. Alas.

15. Got MP3?
I made an audio recording of Helen's interview with Blitzer. It's about 3 MBs in size:
