Downtown protesters mark Iraq war's anniversary

03-20) 08:45 PST SAN FRANCISCO -- Traffic is flowing through a Market Street intersection now that police have cleared more than a dozen anti-war protesters from the street.

Seventeen protesters from a group calling itself "Act Against Torture" blocked Market and Montgomery streets for about 15 minutes to mark the third anniversary of the Iraq war and denounce the Bush Administration's policies.

Police in riot gear warned the protesters at least twice to clear the intersection, then moved in to arrest those who did not comply.

It was not immediately known how many people were arrested.

Once officers cleared the intersection, the protesters regrouped in the sidewalk to continue the demonstration, waving signs and shouting slogans through bullhorns.

"Shut down Guantanamo! Shut down the war!" some of the 75 or so demonstrators yelled.
