Catalyst for the war against Iran; " a Pearl Harbor type event"...
Sounds familiar......

Cannon here: Of course I support Feingold's call for censure, and I'm angry at the Democrats who would not stand with him. Even so, a part of me can understand the skittishness.

Censure may seem politically safe now, with Bush's approval rating sinking toward the 30% mark and points southward. But those approval ratings will skyrocket after the Sears Tower comes down and a good chunk of Chicago lies in ruins. Or after some similar event happens elsewhere.

Let's face it -- a new terror attack is the only thing that can salvage the neocon experiment. Such an attack is therefore inevitable.

We already know who the perps will be (the neocons) and who the fall guys will be (the Iranians). Afterward will come the great round-up of the "America-haters" -- defined as you and me and anyone else who considers Big Brother doubleplusungood. There will also be war with Iran. Nuclear war.

The signs are unmistakable. Come and see:

1. The far-right continually assails anyone who criticizes Bush as working with the terrorists. This accusation seems inane now, but it will take on quite an ominous tone after Big Wedding II.

2. Official propagandist Jerome Corsi, who is surely on the inside, has warned of an Iranian nuclear terror strike within the United States -- even though (as a moment's thought will tell you) Iran has nothing to gain and everything to lose from such an event.

3. No one doubts that the adminstration is gearing up for war with Iran, even though no political will exists in this country to prosecute such a conflict. Obviously, Cheney and co. know full well that an event will soon take place which will create sufficient backing.

4. Bush himself has repeated the false claim that Iran is arming the insurgency in Iraq. (Why would Shi'ite Iran want to undermine the most Shi'ite-friendly neighboring government they've ever known?)

1. Of course there are some factions
in Iran aiding some factions in Iraq. This has always been the case. Watch the Daily Show online where Jon Stewart brings this out. Bush said the IEDs could be traced to Iran. The military guy said there is no proof. Same show second act. Lies.

2. I don't think the "rounding up"
would proceed as planned. Assume it is, in fact, the plan. It might well spark a civil war here in THIS country.

3. Another, new Pearl Harbor!
I've read of such an attack, it's my thinking it will happen in one of our southern ports say Alabama! Probably some time this month, i hope to hell i'm wrong but i put nothing past this admin.

4. I'm inclined to disagree
You may have had a point if you made this argument a year ago, but ever since Katrina, Bush's approval ratings on the "handle terrorism" question have slipped into the low 40's. The Dubai ports deal only made it worse. So a new terror attack is not likely to be a public opinion booster for Bush. Second, a war with Iran would require a draft, and if anything would wake up the complacent American people--young people especially--it would be a draft.

5. I agree with you
A large attack now would only serve to bring out how he mishandled 'taking care of us' too. They have used that talking point too much , they used it as proof that we haven't had another attack so having one would disprove that theory. It would backfire now and like you said a year ago it might have worked.

6. Me 2
If the perception of safety with Bush vanishes, Bush is in low teens to single digits.

8. I post it as an interesting opinion from Cannon, you could be right and
your point is well taken. What I worry about is that whenever Bush has a popularity or other perceived problem, the terror alert level bounces in tune with the situation. If this administration has any control over an event, something may happen. This may be stretch and "out there" on the fringe as believable but, there are still quite a few questions about 9/11, the Carlisle Group, PNAC, Bin Laden, and Bush that leave me open on the thought. It would be insane to be sure but, there again, I'm still open.
