Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Liberian President speaking before Congress
This woman has been through much, and I hope she gives her nation the hope that she appears to have and the nurturance that she conveys in her words. If our pols had been through what she describes going through to get to the position of power that she is in, perhaps we wouldn't be in the mess we are in today.

She's speaking to a joint session of Congress now on CSPAN.

1. i sure hope she's the real thing...
...and not just another puppet of corporations who want exploit liberia's many resources, including diamonds, gold and oil. there's currently a law forbidding foreign ownership of these resources. i hope johnson-sirleaf will not change this.

she's speaking pretty independently today. i hope she will still be speaking this way a year from now.

anytime repubs start hugging all over a black person, be afraid.
be very afraid.
