The point is not to pass censure. The point is to make it impossible
to pass the Frist "pardon" of Bush's criminal wiretap. We know the Repubs won't climb on board to censure Bush. But the Frist pardon must not be passed. Every Dem should understand that. Even Republicans should understand that. But the Dems who don't take at least the measure of supporting censure are complicit in the crime Frist is trying to commit.

1. I hadn't thought of this part
I'm glad you brought it up. Will Frist's bill also have to go through Judiciary? If so, can we use the censure resolution to our advantage to make sure the bill doesn't get out of committee?

BTW, checked out your journal-loved your popcorn eating icon - but I think you are doing things with it in a very nice manner!

2. The Fix Has Been In For A While
When I heard Magic Bullet Arlen turn to jello on this issue I knew both the wire-tapping and FISA laws would be ammended to allow whatever wiretapping this regime wants to do and that any tapping done prior to the law's enactment (meaning the illegality) would be wiped away in some clause inside the revised bill. Yep, the pardon is built right in...and it would be framed as part of a bigger issue (and I bet a defense appropriation would be attached as well), so that any vote against this whitewash would look like a vote against supporting troops or preventing this regime from "keep Amuricans safe". That's two Rove birds with one vote.

3. Can they even make a law retro-active?
What he did is illegal no matter what, right?

5. Republican Legislature says no.
Republican Executive signs it. What will the Republican Judiciary say about it?

4. Right and there should be a public debate, imo
Constituents have a right to hear it. Frist will put lipstick on this pig and tuck it firmly out of sight otherwise. Democrats will once again be caught wrong-footed on national security and oversight.

8. It needs to be said again.
Why did Feingold push this now, when Repubs control Congress, when it was obvious the Repubs were not going to vote to censure their boy? I think it's to forestall the move to legitimize Bush's crime retroactively. Bring this up with your Senators' staff and find out where they stand on Specter/Frist's move to pass a Congressional "pardon" of Bush. Then let us know here what they say, please!
