Kerry aide: "fireworks in the Senate this afternoon over Arctic drilling"

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3626796/

<snip>

Aides to Sen. John Kerry (D) advise that there will be "fireworks in the Senate this afternoon over Arctic drilling" as Kerry "continues his fight to prevent drilling in ANWR." Kerry and colleague Maria Cantwell (D) are trying to circumvent efforts by Senate Republicans to protect the provision from a filibuster by inserting it into the filibuster-proof budget bill.

they are determined to finish the planet off once and for all.

Kerry is a hero for the inviroment...this is so important, the Artic is melting and they want to drill and kill.

I really hate these bastards.

4. Perhaps he should mention current horrific Oil spill
I find it amazing that http://news.independent.co.uk/environment/article351121.ece"> this story of a horrific Arctic oil spill has not made the MSM. Perhaps Kerry needs to announce it. Then maybe then the MSM might discover it. There has bee so little about it, I would not be surprised if the Senate itself is unaware of it.

If anyone can manage to get pictures, it could kill the ANWAR outright, as this appears to be the "worst case scenario" folk are talking about. This is probably why it is being kept so quiet.

11. It's all over the local news here...

I too am surprised that it hasn't made more of a splash, so to speak, on the evening news. The spill apparently covers approximately two acres. BP is saying that they will get it all cleaned up, but because of very inclement weather conditions up there right now (wind chills down to 60 below), the going is slow. A good thing is that the cleanup will be easier because of the frozen ground, but this really has been a disastrous spill, many times larger than previous spills along the pipeline.

6. I glad Kerry is out in front on this. The Repubs will not let it die. This
bad idea needs to be retired just like Senator Steven's the man who keeps pushing it.

7. W/ brand new major oil finds in Mexico/Afghan., we don't need artic oil.
It would take just as long to get oil production on line in the Artic as in those fields - maybe longer considering the location/weather. And bush has already got a lot invested in paying off & controlling the new "leaders" in Afghanistan. So Big Oil can waltz right in and start ripping off another country.
