US tells China to cut trade surplus

The US administration warned on Tuesday it was heading for a confrontation with China over bilateral economic relations if Beijing did not move immediately to open its markets to American imports.

Carlos Gutierrez, commerce secretary, delivered a sharply- worded speech just a month before a visit to Washington by Hu Jintao, the Chinese president.

That will help. What will help exponentially more is makin' jobs here.

Trade is about having things to give.

Not giving away things you trade while taking the ability from you to pay for the goods that keeps trading possible.

Which means it's rather difficult to open up any market for US products? :cry:

Still, for better or worse, somebody is finally doing something - anything - to try to curb the imbalance. 'course, are the intentions behind it good? How would I know?

10. What An Idiot!

You know, of course, that the first and best option for China to cut the trade surplus is to export less here. That hurts our economy as much as their economy. So, this is precipitating a lose-lose disagreement. No! Cronyism in gov't doesn't hurt anything, does it?
