Lloyd Grove fires back at Olbermann after "Worst Person" award...
Viewers must have been scratching their heads as Krazy Keith made creepy insinuations about my twentysomething associate's long and rewarding service at MSNBC before I hired her away.

"The conflict of interest is as bad as anything I've seen in journalism," Olbermann claimed, weirdly, adding that "when she left, nobody cried." Not that any of his colleagues were sobbing when he left his last half a dozen jobs in broadcasting, including an earlier MSNBC stint when producers reportedly had to pry him from a fetal position under his desk to get him to go on the air.

I'm not a clinician, so I won't pretend to understand Krazy Keith's behavior, including sometimes locking himself in his Secaucus, N.J., office and speaking to staffers only if they've put a written request in his mailbox. "He's a sad and pathetic figure," one of his former bosses mused yesterday. But my sympathy is limited.

This ought to be an entertaining grudge match.

1. At first blush, this Lloyd person comes across as not only a creep ...
but a misogynist kind of man at that. :P

I base my initial impression on his choice of wording in his subsequent "Teresa Heinz Kerry" snippet.

When a journalist of either gender uses the generic demotion, namely the word "female" instead of "women" as a designation, I'm thinking "pompous - HE MAN - asshole."

"pro-choice female candidates"

But that's just my initial impression for I don't know this MAN from ADAM. :hi:

4. "woman" is not an adjective, so saying "female candidate" is correct
while saying "woman candidate" would make no sense.

I get upset when people refer to gender at all when it's not necessary. Unless there is some reason to specify that the pro-choice candidate is female, then the phrase should be "pro-choice candidate."

But he sounds like an asshole to me, too. Anyone who tries that hard to slant a story through name-calling and incomplete, inaccurate references is an asshole.

6. It may be grammatically correct but I don't see MALE candidate

used with *ANY* frequency.

Yes, I digress to admit that I don't personally (just my take) give a damn about grammar as long as one's comments are basically understandable to the audience.

IMO the term FeeMale (he haw!) is the ultimate in degradation. It makes women appear like some sort of cut-out characters when used in any context other than a Biology class.

If it is troubling to an English major and they wish to help the poster use correct English Grammar, there's always PM as a viable (and considerate) option.

I despise it every time a group of women are called "Females" or every white college woman murdered by a black man referred to by the equally demeaning (ornamental - helpless?) term, "Co-Ed." IMO that mainstream media use of terminology is a two-fer in that it satiates the sensibilities of both racists and misogynists.

Perhaps we can meet half way and you can suggest any other terms that would be grammatically correct in this context? After all, the term "boy" was often grammatically correct in referring to African American men 30+ years ago, but not today. :hi:

7. Be that as it may
Woman is a noun, female an adjective. I use them that way, because otherwise they make no sense. And I doubt you'll find many stronger feminists than me.

Terms like co-eds, girls (for an adult), ladies, and all the rest piss me off. Female as an adjective is fine. Female as a noun is a bit odd when talking about humans (works well for other animals, though). And yes, the term "male" is used with great frequency in the same context: male suspect, male applicant, male flight attendant, etc. It's the adjectival form of man, just as female is the adjectival form of woman.

As for the use of "boy," it was much the same as co-ed or girl. It was meant to degrade.

11. Thank you for the explanation and the education
You come across as a thoughtful grammarian.

Albeit it's most likely a personal quirk, I cringe every time I hear the term FEMALE. Sorry, I'll admit, you're probably right - it's a personal pet peeve. :hi:

2. "Krazy Keith"? Sounds like "Loopy Lloyd" talking.
"'Olbermann claimed, weirdly'"? Does he realize he's just lost any chance he might have had of being considered a credible journalist?

Oh man, this idiot dragged out ALL the ammunition that's been used against Keith over the years. Over and over again they bash him with the accusation that he's impossible to work with and can't hold down a job...this despite the fact that he's been doing Countdown at MSNBC now for almost three years, and that he's back on ESPN Radio. They even used a stupid story about him in what is I believe the now-defunct Radar magazine to imply that he used to "hide under his desk." Sheesh. Months ago, he said he used to hide under his desk to make personal phone calls because he had no privacy...As for the story about locking himself in his office, it sounds as if his "twentysomething associate" with her "long and rewarding service at MSNBC" supplied him with that tale, which was no doubt fabricated to help support their position. As for the "former boss" who called him a "sad and pathetic figure"? You can bet your last money that was someone from Fox Sports. Ah, Faux...when someone needs help bashing Olbermann, they're more than happy to circle the wagons and come to the person's aid. And Loopy Lloyd even uses Fox's own tactics: the classic "low ratings" smear.

What does it all come down to? Whenever someone doesn't like Keith Olbermann and feels threatened by his intelligence or his success, the first thing they do is question his sanity. Imply that he's really got some serious mental problems and the men in white coats really need to come and take him away.

Pathetic.

I can't wait to see what he comes back with. Then again, I don't think I even have to guess who will win the title of "Worst Person in the World" tonight.

5. Same thing they did to Al Gore and are doing to Hillary Clinton, so
Keith O should feel flattered. They now consider him a genuine threat.

It's not hard to imagine a busy professional locking the office door and requiring people to schedule appointments when they are against a deadline. I do it myself when I'm doing payroll at work. Most professionals have times when everyone knows they are unavailable. Guess that's why it's shocking to Lloyd--he wouldn't have any experience with professionals.

3. KO must be good for business
At least KO warns us before a celebrity segment with "my Producers are making me do this". I wonder what journalistic talent gossip columns require 'cause I'm scratching my head just looking for this writer's supposed dry wit.

12. Seems that Loony (no. you are!) Lloyd is just a One-Trick Idiot...
...according to his own boss.

It's not the kind of e-mail you want to get from your boss. "Lloyd Grove is a {bleep}ing idiot. His page is stupid," wrote Martin Dunn, editorial director of the New York Daily News, where Grove plies his gossip trade. Grove discovered the missive -- first reported by New York Post rival Richard Johnson -- because Dunn mistakenly forwarded it to him.

His habit of projecting mental illness from Atrios:

SIX DEGREES OF LLOYD GROVE

Lloyd Grove's recent attack on Brock was simply recycled from Matt "Coo Coo ca Choo" Drudge's site, without actual confirmation, and jazzed up with a few quotes from ex-pals of Brock. What's Grove's interest in this story?

Let's connect the dots.

To begin with, Grove gets quotes from R. Emmett Tyrrell ("Until now, I've been very cautious about what I've said about poor David because I didn't want to be responsible for driving him over the edge") and Barbara Ledeen ("here had been suspicions that there had been something wrong for a while.")

That would be the wife of Niger Forged-the-Nation-into-War, Neo-Know-Nothing-About-It, Michael Ledeen.

I think APJ sums it up:

Deflecting David Brock's criticism of the right with ad hominem about mental illness, as Lloyd Grove did, is classic. Those who wrote letters in support of Solzhenitsyn, Scharansky and Sakharov know.

Fascist fluff-monger.
