I just can't STAND it- Harwood says that even if Dems get a majority
in the elections, they still wouldn't bring up impeachment because of fearing it would backfire on them. I don't know why he says that (based on WHO? Lieberman?) but IF that is so, what happened to congress getting rid of a president that is BREAKING THE LAW and illegally invading other countries? I want to vote ALL those bums out, Dems too, and get some BETTER Dems.

5. no kidding - if they won't even stand up to slap his wrist
how could we expect enough of a backbone transplant to happen to throw the bum out. BUT I hold out hope that maybe there is a god that cares that the earth survive and will provide us with the miracle to do just that.

10. they'll wimp out unless the GOP decides to throw him out
and he's become enough of a liability that they just may do so. They know damned full well that if the Democrats ever shed their lousy leadership and managed to start sounding like a populist party again, they'd be completely buried by a combination of that and anti-Stupid sentiment.

If the GOP loses seats in the mid terms, they may act. They'll have to get rid of Cheney first, though, since he's even more of an albatross than Stupid is.

2. Unfortunately I believe it...
look how the Dems are reacting to Feingold's proposition and ask yourself why. Harwood may have your answer.

3. I'm beginning to think that BushCo has 'em all by the dangly bits
We've heard out and out threats before. It is very possible that this sort of evil manipulation goes much deeper and far more dastardly than those little slips revealed.

4. I thought about this earlier today
It's a very real and disturbing possibility considering their overwhelming unwillingness to support even censure.

6. He Said It Backfired On Repubs...But It Didn't Really....
Although they failed in their attempt to convict, their impeachment has been used again and again to tarnish the Clinton legacy and all that Clinton accomplished. It has become an iconic shorthand descriptor for Clinton's corruption, in their eyes and the eyes of many.

But more importantly, Clinton was impeached for lying about a sexual indiscretion, not lying us into a war costing thousands of lives and maiming thousands of others and ruining their lives and the lives of their loved ones. That's why the result would be different, I think.

However, the dems are scared...and I wonder if Harwood may be right...for the wrong reasons...Fear is the reason, not the fact that impeachment backfired...

12. If Failing Means Getting TOTAL Control Of All Bodies Of Government...
Yeah....then I guess it really backfired in a major way.

There are far too many ignorant and STUPID politicians. On both sides.

8. I Hear This And Wonder....
When I post here on DU about how sad the future of this country is, and how I don't see myself staying here more than another few years....I get comments like "Fine....Leave."

How can we hope to get Anywhere when this is basically our future. At Best! Even if the Dems somehow mangage to win big in November....which they probably won't, all it means is that nothing much will happen for the ensuing 2 years, because the Dems don't have enough guts to stand up to their enemies on the other side.

Let's just all play nice. Fuck That! I'm tired, and I can't see anything promising for this country, regardless of what turns are yet to come. Of course, the entire world may be doomed as well.

9. Understand that establishment dems in DC
Edited on Tue Mar-14-06 08:23 PM by Pithy Cherub
are getting seriously scared. They have no control over the base and it has reared up to start funding challengers. The establishment went after Dean and now they would have to go to Governor Dean to get some political cover.

Meanwhile, the moderates have few resources in the blogosphere. The left dominates and it is in a rip roaring bad mood. The middle of the road presidential wannabe's are stuck in the middle with a fence post up their butts saying it is going to hurt no matter which way the middle moves. Next, with the Left in a really vile mood, the establishment says on their knees every night, somebody please make them stop.

We are fully watching and they know we are watching and it is getting really hot and stuffy in the corner when the one side is fully armed and the establishment is cowering in terror from all sides.

It will show Americans that we are a Democracy and as of now the majority of Americans favor impeachment It will also show voters that the Democrats are more than talk and yes they will act.(but they better get some backbone)
If Bush keeps going on the same track,by November even the Repukes will be calling for impeachment.

14. I think it was a smart move by Harwood
Harwood took a GOP advantage off the table. Something this big shouldn't go before a case against the president has been established with a large majority of the public. Its better to wait until Dems have a majority, then investigate and prove lawbreaking, then censure or impeach.

Personally, I don't like impeachment as an option. Instead of 535 politicians, our Congress is becoming 535 district attorneys trying to build cases against each other.

16. maybe the Dems want to use these expanded powers of the Presidency
so they letting this slip by. And when a Democrat gets the white house, they will enjoy using these increased powers to suppress opposition and control the media just like bush does.

just a thought....
