Kerry to Put Hold on Bush Pick for Post

By LESLIE MILLER, Associated Press Writer
6 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Former presidential candidate John Kerry said Tuesday he will prevent the former head of Boston's $14.6 billion Big Dig, Richard Capka, from becoming head of the Federal Highway Administration.

Snip...

Capka, nominated earlier this month by President Bush for the top highway job, was chief executive officer of the Boston highway project from January 2001 to June 2002 until his position was terminated.

Though costs rose slightly during his 1 1/2-year tenure, Capka was mostly criticized for his failure to handle the political controversies surrounding the massive project. For example, he approved lucrative severance packages for several Big Dig lawyers.

Snip...

"Why on earth would he get a promotion?" Kerry said. "It looks like the administration is going to repeat a stunning pattern of rewarding people who screw up."

3. Bingo! Kerry hit it right on the head.
If I screwed up as badly as many of the Bushies have, I'd have been out on my ass on the sidewalk, NOT given a promotion!

7. Good. Jab that SOB in the ribs every chance you get
I'm sure he'll be recess-appointed the next time congress is scheduled to go on lobbyist retreats or whatever. But I don't want to see dimwit given any quarter at all, ever. Of course, I've been sorely disappointed on that score, but I'll take the little things. Good job, Senator Kerry.

9. I'm underwhelmed
I guess I could say I'm glad it's getting some press. But good grief. Isn't this just a little like the little Dutch boy trying to plug the leak in the dike?

And, given this guy's record, it would be better that he is not appointed.

18. Yeah, all that's quite true
I guess I'm just feeling SO overwhelmed by all that's wrong, all that's been raped and destroyed and stolen, all that's needing to be done, that something like this is a colossal, tho all too typical, disappointment.

It is what it is and it's better than NO action, but in the context I'm swimming in at the moment...well, you get the picture. Too little too late, but

20. You prefer that Democratic activist sites NOT be current on ALL efforts
of our lawmakers?

We have a corporate media dumbing this nation down and ignoring almost everything they do.

Media will treat this little story the same way they treated Kerry's Iraq withdrawal plan and his Downing Street Memo inquiry - they'll ignore it.

It doesn't matter the size and scope or importance of ANY action taken by a Democrat - it will get ignored if it really hurts Bush, or redefined by the press - Murtha's plan is now "cut and run" don't you know.

Did the media actually DISCUSS the reasons for filibustering Alito or did they define it just as a desperate Dem move?

How any Dem can just mindlessly pile on is beyond me.

17. That's interesting
I don't recall having used it -- well, I don't know when I last used it but it doesn't seem recently at all to me, and haven't really been responding THAT much to Kerry threads either. Perhaps you could refresh my memory with a few links??

16. He'd better "get it." He's lived it!
If you've never been to Boston, or seen The Big Dig, you should check it out. Hell, you and your grandkids and their grandkids will still be paying for it long after cars have been replaced by flying saucers. The scope of the project is one of those things that makes you wonder who in their right might thought this was a good idea.

BUT...now that much of it is finally usable, it is hard not to be impressed by the sheer engineering genius. If you ever get a chance, watch the Discovery Channel special about it. It will blow your mind.

So, if John Kerry, the Massachusetts Senator who actually had to live through the project and drive through it and see it first hand, if he didn't "get it" on this one, he'd be totally, totally useless.
