I don't think it's a left wing thing. I don't think it's a right wing thing.

Just had to share this with y'all.

One of the guys at work is a freeper. We got a newsletter from a food services consultant we use, and there was a column in there about conserving water. Good idea for everyone, right, left or otherwise, correct? The newsletter was to be routed to him before me, but somehow, that didn't happen and it came to me first.

So, I gave it to him and he says, "Oh, this is that 'left wing' newsletter." I said, "They talk about conserving water...that's a good idea for everyone."

I guess if they were writing about wasting resources, it WOULD be a partisan thing...a right-wing thing, huh? Sheesh!

5. You are correct
Many conservatives care about the environment. However few conservatives vote on these issues.

7. Good stewardship of our natural resources ...
... became a 'left-wing' thing the day that Big Business realized it would cost money NOT to pollute.

It's a very easy formula: If it takes money OUT of someone's pocket, especially a corporation that's already making billions in profits, that automatically makes it a crazy, left-wing idea!

If anyone on this thread wants to talk about preserving the natural beauty of our country (or what's left of it), just ask my sister, CatMother.

She lives in the desert, and she'll SMACK YOU SILLY if you step on a bug, or crush a newly-sprouting cactus!

30. That's the key - it's "profit at whatever cost" that is anti-environment
You can find a few right-wingers who are environmentally conscious - mostly those who come from a long rural background, and to whom farming and property are important. Also, the 'left wing' regimes of Eastern Europe were awful for the environment, because they had a similar obsession with production (just for the state instead of company owners).

9. It's a knee-jerk reaction when talking about 'saving' anything
The right wing view is that there's plenty to go around, damage to the environment is vastly exaggerated and global warming is a myth.

It comes from listening to too much Limbaugh. But Limbaugh dismisses anything the left pays attention to.

For instance, I remember about 10 years ago when Limbaugh announced he got a new computer. He made a big deal out of the fact that he found the EnerStar options on his PC and when he realized what they were, he disabled them all, so now his PC was using the full amount of power all the time.

Now, I'm sure he mentioned this just to get a rise out of us lefties (and all others who care about their power consumption) but it shows you the mentality here.

10. If you live in the West, water is an issue for everyone.
I hear your frustration.

Tell him Teddy Roosevelt was a conservationist, regardless of his other "endeavors".

He helped establish intelligent public land policy in the West, policy which is being decimated by his party today.

12. It's becuase the RW Noise Machine says things like "enviro-wackos"
so that whenever conserving the environment is mentioned, it is now equated with wackos.

Probably because the biggest destroyers of our environment are large corporate interests and the RW looks out for them over people. They don't want their buds in the corporate world to have to spend any money cleaning up the messes they make, or to be prevented from destroying the environment in the first place.

Speaking of energy conservatin, the firm I work for won the Energy Star Award 4 years ago for a state office building it designed, and just today, he and my other boss approved an ad to be published that touts just that.

29. Because all that is good and true in the world is now on the Left.
The Right? They got nothing left but greasy con men, greedy billionaires, and sweaty leering preachers.

:)

Didn't used to be that way, but that's how it is now.
