Cong. candidate says no to lobbyist breakfast
State Rep. Peter Sullivan will not attend Wednesday's St. Patricks roast and breakfast sponsored by a Concord lobbying firm.

"As a member of the House, I have made tougher ethics laws a top priority. As a candidate for Congress, I have pledged to pursue reform in Washington. I can't allow those principles to be compromised for a plate of scrambled eggs and an hour of bad jokes"

1. There was a story about lobbyist on one of the cable news channels

They were saying (paraphrasing here)that now everyone is afraid to be seen in public with DC lobbyists and that in the future they'll probably go underground in their meetings, attending their events in private homes owned by various organizations around DC.

Don't really know if it is a good thing or not.

3. Point taken.
The real issue I have with this breakfast is the fact that legislators are admitted for free, while other people (ie, other lobbyists, agency heads, etc) are asked to pony up for a chance to schmooze.

What also disturbs me is the fact that the Deputy Speaker (R) and the Minority Leader (D) are participating in a gig sponsored by a lobbying firm. It just doesn't pass the smell test.

4. Back in the day, it was called "taking a graft". It was political suicide.
Now they call it lobbying, and it's just considered part of politics.

5. Oh, clone him, please!
It's sad social commentary when one has to admit to being impressed by integrity...Nevertheless, I'm impressed! Would that there were more Peter Sullivans in Congress.
