By request: The new South Carolina "State Quarter" !
Our fellow DUer 'watrwefitnfor' enjoyed my South Dakota Quarter design,
and asked me to do one for South Carolina as well.

South Carolina currently has some Anti-abortion legislation in the works
which is every bit as draconian as the South Dakota law.

So, I offer this to the legislators of SC;
perhaps they can attach an amendment to the bill
making this their new state quarter,
so they can advertise their proud new theocracy!

(And sorry it took so long, watrwefitnfor;
I really made alot of unnecessary work for myself
on this one. Hope you like it!)

5. Thanks!! See what happens when I turn off sig-lines
because the dial-up's makin' me nuts, and then forget I did it? Let that be a lesson to me! :spank:

7. AH! I was really puzzled that you hadn't noticed that!
I forgot all about the 'no signature lines' option.

I have similar confusion with the animated smileys sometimes;
I have my browser set to only run through the animation ONCE,
and some of them don't make any sense when all I ever see is the final frame.

6. Nice work!
Poor little wren makes me sad tho.

Not to mention the tree.

But . . . it is a huge, and fitting metaphor. The neo-nazis target the powerless--poor women, animals, and the environment.

May they rot in the lowest depths of hell . . .

And fully intend to spread it around, along with your suggestion.

dicksteele is - words fail me. Thank you. I can't believe you did this for me.

Sorry, I'm in tears now. For my state, my country, my granddaughters.

12. I'm glad you like it! (And one thing I forgot to mention.)
If you can put this to some good use, then it's worth all the effort!

I fear I may be doing another 20 of these in the next few years;
so I hope all the mistakes I made on this one were a learning experience for me!

And I forgot to mention in the OP:
I replaced "E Pluribus Unum"
with "Nubilus Caelum Obscuratur",
which means "There are dark clouds in the sky".

I don't speak Latin, but I have a small 'tourist phrasebook',
that phrase just seemed appropriate.

(And, no, I DON'T know why I have that book.
Am I subconsciously afraid that a time-warp is going
to throw me back to ancient Rome?
If one did, would I have time to grab a book?
It makes no damn sense!:silly:
)

13. I caught your 'dark clouds' and took your meaning.
I don't even have a phrasebook, but found a website with a translator. :-)

I'll be seeking opportunities with this and will let you know of any progress. (It's hard to mention progress and South Carolina in the same sentence!) I already sent it to a couple of people.

Do you want credit as dicksteele or no credit?

Thank you again.

19. Excellent work. K&R
Ironic that just a couple of days ago SC turned down the suggestion that the "controversy":eyes: surrounding Darwin's theory be included in science classes. Though I think it was the citizens board who made the recommendation, and the education experts who turned it down, IIRC.

20. If I remembered my Latin, I'd try to come up with a Latin version of
an appropriate state slogan like "Rapists' Rights Come First."

21. Indeed. I'm hoping some DU Latin-phile might someday...
...take an interest in my work,
and agree to help translate some phrases like that.

My little Latin phrasebook is wide-ranging to a bizarre
degree, but not so useful for what I do.

22. I posted an inquiry in the DU Languages & Linguistics Group:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=309x245

I haven't checked to see if there's one on ancient history or some other topic that might attract Latin writers. I don't doubt that there's somebody at DU that would enjoy doing the translations.

27. Spent last week in South Carolina..
The Upstate, where I was born and raised, as the saying goes. I had just come back from 4 months of working in Egypt (where I spent most of last year). I was en route to my adopted home of many years, Los Angeles.

Guess why.

:-)

Some kinfolks dropped by to see me, and we came dangerously close to a screaming match over Lord God Bu$h, prayer in school, abortion and other light family-friendly subjects.

I know that, according to all the rules of Civilization, I have to love my family. But I sure as hell don't have to like them very much.

"Are there any CHRISTIANS in Egypt?"

"Yep. Coptic Xians. One of the oldest branches of Xianity."

"Never heard of them. Now them Muslims--they don't believe in gawd, do they?"

I currently live eight hundred miles from where I grew up,
for much the same reasons.
The countryside is as beautiful as ever there,
but that's just not reason enough to go back anymore.:cry:
