Apple Computer Inc. is setting up a technical support center in Bangalore, India, according to a report Thursday in The Times of India.

I just reject the idea that it's "liberal" or "progressive" to say that hard working Americans are any more deserving of jobs than hard working people in India.

27. And I reject the premis that India is more deserving.
One of my close friends has a doctorate in Mathmatics, and a hell of an engineer -- laid off.
A lady has a masters in EE -- laid off.
Tons of highly educated people -- laid off.

But hey, India has a booming middle class. They deserve it more.

and it is only gonna get worse...

i think that if america truly stood for FREEDOM & EQUALITY we would have a TAX against all countries who's standards didn't meet our own (environment, health-care, benefits, pensions, unions, etc) on ALL their exports to our country.

as a liberal, i think thats fair.

32. Just as I reject the idea that it's liberal and progressive
to lift one middle class at the expense and destruction of another's without providing some kind of long-term outlook, new industries and professions and more of a safety net for those displaced workers.

You think this is some kind of argument for entitlement? Real people are being hurt and whole towns are being destroyed by this practice. Come to Northeast Ohio sometime and look at all of the ghost towns, dead factories and vacant office space thanks to this brand of rotten Darwinist economics.

Remember, those economists you study are nothing but theoreticians. America doesn't need 130 million nanotechnologists, lawyers, doctors or service workers. We need a future and more attention paid to this growing problem of an infrastructure that no longer includes workers.

11. Mac users and Dell users are different people. Different attitudes.
Different responses.

Based on the Mac users I know, I'd take them to be more receptive to support via India.

Might be wrong, but that's my take.

12. So "more receptive to support via India" equals...
more receptive to American jobs sent to India?

Seriously, I'm not trying to be a dick here...I'm just looking for something positive in Apple bleeding American jobs to India.

WHY is this a good thing in the context of Mac users versus PC users?

13. No. Your post was about getting "Indian accents" when calling for help.
I think there are people who - regardless of outsourcing - don't want to deal with foreign accents.

I think Mac users are less likely to fall into that category than Dell users.

39. How did India come up from corporate-zilch to IT-central of the world?
As with what's happening now, I suspect free education and transportation. H1B being one piece of the puzzle.

"When" is about 2000 or 2001...

But it's a pity we don't help our own first; but then we're too expensive and practice freedom - that's a bad thing.

You're right, they're happy to take American jobs - and then insult Americans in return. That isn't very nice, yet I can't blame them - Americans are stupid... Other countries would see such insults against their people as a slur, or even an act of aggression. Our country's leaders don't seem to care. Says much for their patriotism, I feel sad to say... :(

Besides, $1/hr - those Indians are mighty cheap. (What does it feel like? I've read plenty. So I feel entitled to show the other side's POV.)

And now with their new nuke capabilities, they'll blow Pakistan off the face of the map... assuming Pakistan doesn't "do a Bush" and pre-emptively wipe out who they see is an aggressive, dangerous enemy...

If only Bush would be President of America again, maybe America can get back on track like it ought to be.

49. I'm definitely not one of these people ..
and I'm also highly suspect of people who refer to themselves as "progressives" and at the same time embrace and defend this uber-Repukelicking piece of economic Darwinism. I see job/career offshoring for what it really is: irresponsible Reaganite bullshit devised by robber barons, defended by puppet "praise the rich, for they are the winners in the game of life" economists and foisted upon the middle class by force at the behest of these same rich pigs. "Evolve or die", "Be a Tiger!" "Economics 101", "A Rising tide lifts all yachts", "The Indian middle class are buying American brand products; therefore, more Americans are employed!" are all right-wing talking points that not only fail logically but realistically as well.

Repukes (rich ones, anyway) don't want a middle class. A powerless, fearful, low-paid and divided middle class is an OBEDIENT middle class. Cheap labor cons LOVE fascism.

It's sad, really... my $50 paid of gloves read "Made in India". That's $50 leather gloves. Seems cows aren't so sacred anymore... and wasn't anybody told which animal it came from? Nobody asking questions... hardly a sign of intelligence. America does not have a monopoly of stupidity, that's for sure...

8. I had to speak to my ISP today. I like Indians, but I'm changing my ISP.
It's going to be my way of showing my patriotism.

No more Dells or any other India based savings for the already rich.

Stockholders should examnine their conscience.

Yesterday, I caught up with a friend who told me about Indians coming in waves and employees who used to be in three buildings are now in one building and on fewer floors and that the training of Indians goes on all the time.

This is high tech stuff. Very high stuff.

Another friend in a different company who dealt in higher high tech taught the Indian who took over and is presently making $10.00 an hour waiting for a break through. It's been over a year, now maybe two.

And job numbers are going up? Show us the high tech job increases, George. There are young people with master degrees searching, endlessly searching.

Thanks, but no thanks, Bill. Your idea has been a disaster for smart people and you know it. But, Chelsea is one of the exceptions so why do you care?

It it keeps going this way, you all might want to find alternative education for your children - let them learn, but don't promise them anything and make sure they don't expect the world unless it's training and supervising in India.
