Thieves Hit--Lee County's Dem Headquarters--Targeted, Purposeful Break-in
Thieves hit Democrats' office
By Betty Parker
Originally posted on March 09, 2006

Lee County's Democratic headquarters had its second break-in in almost as many years this week.

Thieves ignored computer equipment and other valuables, and took the party's financial records and voter data, said Lyndia Bradley, Lee County's Democratic chairwoman.

"This was a very targeted, purposeful break-in," she said Wednesday. "They were obviously interested in certain things, not things you sell on the street for money."

Computers were vandalized, but there was no sign of forced entry.

The office is located on Park Meadow Drive in south Fort Myers.

Bradley said the office is not staffed daily this time of year, and she and others were last in the office March 1.

The theft was discovered Monday.

11. I just sent 20 bucks and a snippy note to Dr. Dean
with this story from Florida, maybe it will make them more aware that they are giving away the store thru lax security procedures. I bet the Republican Offices have laser beams that
zap intruders on-site.

5. This is typical repug stuff...No surprise there...
But as for the Dems that run the office...they should have taken more precautions to secure the voter data and the financials....

Dems need to wise up that everyone is not like us-law abiding and trying to play by the rules.....
All offices around the country need to be careful.

6. Why are they nagging us for money and remain so STUPID
Why do they have this information laying in a closed office, why don't they encrypt it
to CDS and take them home in a locked attache case. They always want our support and remain
so stupid, they probably don't even have burglar alarms. This was highlighted in Fooled
Again, there is no real criminal prosecution and it opens up innocent voters to having
their registrations "purged" or harassment on many levels, not to mention being harassed
by IRS, Homeland Security and a host of government minions.

7. Republican Preemptive Strike Campaign
Sounds similar to events prior to the 2004 Theft.

8. Similar to Ohio break-ins
To some Democrats, this week’s break-in is reminiscent with a burglary in October at the Lucas County Democratic Party Headquarters about three weeks before last year’s election.

In that case, thieves shattered a side window overnight at the headquarters, stealing computers and sensitive campaign information.

Toledo police investigated, but were unable to make any arrests in the case.

Funny how these cases seem to never get solved.

10. For the very small expenditure required, and given this happens so often
I do think it would behoove EVERY Democratic HQ to install a well hidden video surveillance system. This stuff is quite affordable, and all you need is to bag a few miserable bastards pulling this nonsense, and they'll cut this crap out. And they'll also be able to get a handle on precisely who is behind this fishy business.
