35. yup...cloture vote .
It's the lobbying ethics bill with a Dubai amendment attached to it by Schumer. Frist refused to remove the amendment on the Dubai deal and take it up as a separate vote when Reid asked him to. The Dems voted against cloture. Now maybe he will withdraw the Dubai amendment and do what Reid asked him to do in the first place and vote on it on its own? I think that's pretty close to what just went down.:)

58. No one knows what connections exist between CIA and Carlyle group,
as the latter is a private investment capital firm, not subject to public disclosure regulations.

During the latter stages of the Vietnam era (after 1969), it has been pretty conclusively documented that Air America (a CIA front company) flew weapons into Laos to support anti-communist forces and flew opium out, much of which made its way to U.S. forces in South Vietnam.

29. The ML has to change his vote to make his motion to reconsider.
Now he can bring it back to the floor for a vote. If he voted against the winning vote and left his vote as it was, he couldn't take the back to the floor for a vote. It's a procedural move.

34. Halliburtion division - KBR: Ports & Harbors
Ports and Harbors

KBR's maritime experience includes port facilities, ship lifts, breakwaters, pipelines, wharves, jetties, harbors, oil platforms, marinas, container terminals, land reclamation works and estuary management.

With our extensive range of infrastructure and engineering design expertise, combined with the services of alliance partners as appropriate, KBR can investigate the full range of project aspects to deliver business-focused solutions.

http://www.halliburton.com/kbr/infra/portsHarbors.jsp

And Schumer said he'd rather have Halliburton than the UAE, & he's offered this Amendment. Does Schumer also know who's taking over these ports?

SCHUMER: Yes, but I'd take Halliburton over UAE at this point, if I had to take a choice right now, this one or the other.

separating the bills for 2 different votes or let it die? The ethics bill goes down and the Dubai deal too? Or bring them back separately?

33. Here's something I haven't heard yet...
Schumer puts this amendment in there, and wants to force a vote to kill the ports deal.

Suddenly a news report comes out saying the Dubai Ports will 'sell back the ports' without details...

Now Frist is trying to 'move forward', trying to avoid a vote on it since we 'don't know what the deal is'...

The Dems are trying to get a 'guarantee' that the vote can be brought back once they find out about the deal.

Is it possible that the news release was put out with the sole purpose to stop the vote?

I'm not sure, but could this be another way to access the site? www.dpworld.com

Oooh, and lookie! I found a press release:
9 March, 2006
DP World and P&O filed a CFIUS application today with the Department of the Treasury, Office of International Investment. This follows up on the commitment made to the U.S. government and the American people in our Hold Separate Commitment and Request for CFIUS Review, dated February 26, 2006.

Any know how to get hold of a CFIUS application? Sounds like it might have info on the 'new deal'!

ETA - OOPS! Sorry the date to the left said today's date, but the CFIUS app press release was from Mar 3rd... old news! Sorry!

Interesting. Now, will Frist separate the bills and vote on them or is it dead now? He made a motion to reconsider. He will have to either separate the 2 or it goes down again.
