Jim Rome (sports radio) today: What is America still good at?
(Paraphrased): "The Olympics proved we're not fundamentally sound at basketball anymore. Canada's minor leaguers beating our All-Stars in the World Baseball Classic proved we're not good at baseball anymore. I guess we can still start wars with the best of them, though."

Surprising social commentary from a nationally syndicated sports guy.

2. Romey was always hard to figure what side he's on. I always suspected...
he is coming from left of center. Now I know that he's one of us.

Go Romey! You are Hugh!

19. Um. No.
He was rah-rahing this whole fucking quagmire when it started with the rest of the clear channel nitwits. He did nothing but bash or make fun of Hillary, Kennedy, and every other Dem that initially opposed the start up of this war. Now that a huge majority of Americans oppose the illegal occupation of Iraq, he feels that it is safe to swing the other way?

Fuck him and the horse he rode in on.

20. One of his favorite bits is making fun of the Dean Scream.
I don't completely agree all of his rants, but he's fun to listen to. It's a sports show, and he seems to nail Dems and the GOP rather equally.

3. JimnRome is great. He talks about politics all the time.
Edited on Thu Mar-09-06 12:50 PM by CottonBear
He seems to be a progressive (or, at least not a RW Republican). Apparently, talk sports radio is a "safe" place to talk about politics and express non-RW viewpoints. I just discovered him last year. All the radio I could get was RW crap and NPR. (I can get a weak AAR signal now.) I was scanning the AM dial and found Rome. Interesting guy.

4. Love Jim Rome-I remember listening to him when Tyson bit off
that guy's ear. Never laughed so hard at a sport show for a long time.

5. In response to his question
music: there are alot of quality genres outside of the commercial mainstream that are really very good. All different styles and all different tastes

Romne was quite torqued off about the whole Pat Tillman thing too.

9. Rome was very taken aback by Tillman quitting football for the Army.
When Tillman died, it shook him hard.

12. I think he spoke at his funeral, pre fratricide report
I guess he went off when he found out the Pentagon was covering up his cause of death until after the funeral.

Betrayal and all

7. Surprising because Rome is a freakin' tool.
He went on a little commentary about freedom of speech a while ago, that really pissed me off. Ironic, considering that all he does for a living is talk shit about people.

10. Jim Rome is all about Jim Rome.
Edited on Thu Mar-09-06 12:59 PM by Botany
He knows which way the winds are blowing about bush. He was a big one pushing
the Clinton impeachment. "Bubba is circling the drain." was one of his
favorite lines. And he was big on beating up the Dixie Chicks too.

The man built his name after goading a football player to slap him on camera.
He has all the class of a rats ass. The man does have talent but he is a living
breathing shit.

17. I think he writes most of his stuff ...
... or used to. And he does have talent but he is extremely manipulative in his actions
and motives. I wouldn't trust him if he told me that it gets dark @ night.

18. His first big splash on the "national" scene
Was, if I recall, when he kept calling quarterback Jim Everett, "Chris", like the female tennis player Chris Everett. So, he was essentially saying that Jim Everett played like a girl...

:evilfrown:

Of course, when Jim Everett came on the show and Rome called him "Chris", Jim Everett got up to go after him, and Rome ran away like, well, like a girl.

21. I saw film of it.
Jim Everett asked to Rome to stop it. (the Chris thing) Rome didn't and Everett slapped him and
knocked his ass to the ground. Then Rome ran. But being the SoCal media savvy guy that he is, he
parlayed that "incident" into national pub and his career has taken off since.

Rome has now admitted that he is not proud of what happened but i think it was that the ends
justify the means thing to him.

14. This is stupid...
What it proves is that we are good at exporting our national pastimes...and Canada's team had a number of major leaguers. It is baseball...a college team, or single A team can beat the big boys once in a while. That's why baseball isn't single elimination. The difference in talent between a single A journeyman and an All Star isn't all that great. One hit a week might seperate the two!
