You May Be A Feminist If..........
... if you believe in equal rights

... if you can think for yourself

... if you know women hold up half the sky-- and it’s the SAME SKY

... if you can’t listen to Rush Limbaugh for more than four minutes without the urge to vomit :puke:

... if you would rather cooperate than dominate

... if you understand that bigotry is bigotry is bigotry.......

... if you open doors for people simply to be helpful

... if you know that the Earth is alive

... if you believe in equal pay for equal work

... if you look at pictures of neighborhood, local, business, religious, national or global leaders at public events and wonder “Where are all the women?”

... if you recognize that there is a pyramid and you are not at the tippy top of it

... if you know that pyramid is a patriarchal, hierarchical system approximately 5,000 years old

... if you are aware that there were human beings and human social systems before approximately 5,000 years ago

... if you reject using Hate Wing Dittohead lingo like “feminazi,” etc.

... if you know: that if Feminism was about grooming, it would be called “Shavism”

... if you have read this far

... if you think women's minds, skills and talents are underutilized in a world that DESPERATELY needs them

... if you value Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness

... if you promote Justice for All

... if you have the radical notion that women are people

... You may be a feminist.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY :woohoo: :yourock: :applause: :grouphug: :bounce: :bounce:

2. Just had a great discussion on feminism
in my Qualitative Research Methods class tonight. I think the students really got into it. You see some resistance, but then when you describe how the production of knowledge is gendered, they get the "ah ha!" light over their heads.

Also fun to see their reactions when their male professor says, "I'm a raging feminist, and let me tell you why..."

Great night in class....

13. I didn't even realize yesterday was International Women's Day
Edited on Thu Mar-09-06 03:03 AM by clyrc
until I was at a campus women's organization meeting, and an Iraqi woman brought a big cake in honor of the day. It was quite wonderful to know that on that day, I was at the a meeting of an organization that raises scholarship money, organizes events for women and families, and helps raise money for charity. There were about forty women present, from at least 15 different countries. I don't know how many of us are feminists, but I certainly am!

16. I bought my husband a calendar for Christmas...
Edited on Thu Mar-09-06 09:52 AM by Tesha
My husband likes trains (both big and small) so I often
get him train-themed calendars for Christmas. Last year's
was photos of models (no, not that kind! Get your mind
out of the gutter!) and this year's is very macho photos
of very big steam engines, mostly caught "on the run".

But International Women's Day was on this calendar!
So if you ever think there's no hope and we're not
making any progress, just remember my husband's
calendar.

15. women have a male side and men have a female side
and they should both be honored. As for feminism, I think it is a lot about letting a person be who they want to be, whatever that is that they want to be, and that they be able to find support and nurturing in life.

26. It is a shame that women have to be feminists at all. Why should there be
a need to fight to be equal with men or to own your own body or to be able to have your own mind when you were born that way from the start. Someone had to take away all that for there to be a need to regain it. That is the shame here. Not the desire to get it back.

Edited on Thu Mar-09-06 06:28 PM by OPERATIONMINDCRIME
With exception to just this line which I'm not quite sure about,
"if you know that pyramid is a patriarchal, hierarchical system approximately 5,000 years old"
the rest are 100% core values of what it means to be liberal or progressive. :)

32. ...if you read the 14 characteristics of fascism
5. Rampant Sexism -- The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy.

Fourteen Characteristics of Fascism -

1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism - 2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights - 3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause - 4. Supremacy of the Military - 5. Rampant Sexism - 6. Controlled Mass Media - 7. Obsession with National Security - 8. Religion and Government are Intertwined - 9. Corporate Power is Protected - 10. Labor Power is Suppressed - 11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts - 12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment - 13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption - 14. Fraudulent Elections

We're only "making it worse" you see, by not conforming to their standards of feminism.
