Molly Ivins taken the gloves off

Enough of the D.C. Dems

By Molly Ivins

03/08/06 "The Progressive" -- Mah fellow progressives, now is the time for all good men and women to come to the aid of the party. I don’t know about you, but I have had it with the D.C. Democrats, had it with the DLC Democrats, had it with every calculating, equivocating, triangulating, straddling, hair-splitting son of a bitch up there, and that includes Hillary Rodham Clinton.

snip
Take “unpatriotic” and shove it. How dare they do this to our country? “Unpatriotic”? These people have ruined the American military! Not to mention the economy, the middle class, and our reputation in the world. Everything they touch turns to dirt, including Medicare prescription drugs and hurricane relief.

This is not a time for a candidate who will offend no one; it is time for a candidate who takes clear stands and kicks ass.

7. Molly for President...
this is best government money can buy...let's get publically funded elections and a Congress that serves the people. If they have to campaign using the public's airwaves, let it be free and a podium for substantial issues only, not Swift Boat Liars. And let's have elections that pass the smell test and can be monitored by every country in the world that has a real democracy!

25. Regarding Hillary
I am so glad Molly has come out against Clinton.

For any of you who feel strongly toward supporting Hillary, I beg you - please do some research on her record on the electronic voting issue. Start with this analysis of S1986 by VerifiedVoting.org. http://www.verifiedvoting.org/article.php?id=5038

Also look at Bo Lipari's analsis of the same worthless bill:
http://www.wheresthepaper.org/PADAproblems.htm

There is also a long and frustrating story about how she ruined lengthy efforts to reach a compromise that may have stopped the use of electronic voting in Nov2004.

ANYONE that is as bad as she is on this issue is NOT a friend of democracy. IMO, SHE IS WORTHLESS!

39. Not only that but never forget that last week
when the vote for cloture on debate on the new and rejuvenated Patriot Act was taken she voted yes.

Hey Hillary, nothing like taking a dump on the Bill of Rights.

I've voted for every Democratic Presidential and Vice Presidential candidate since 1972. If "that woman" gets the nod from the party in 2008, I will NOT vote for her. I'll take a pass which is something I never thought I could do.

We don't need Republican lite. We need a real leader that speaks to the issues that are at the core of our values. We need honesty and integrity brought back to politics.

I saw Why We Fight tonight and I am ashamed to be an American. A pox on them all. (However, I would also include Boxer with Feingold.)

29. Say it Loud ... say it proud
Every Democrat I talk to is appalled at the sheer gutlessness and spinelessness of the Democratic performance. The party is still cringing at the thought of being called, ooh-ooh, “unpatriotic” by a bunch of rightwingers.

44. Feingold, really like the guy
At least whenever the media will allow us to hear him he impresses the hell out of me. So, what might be a negative? I was such a Dean fan, he impressed me in a similar way that Feingold is beginning to impress me. Dean appeared to run on pure guts and ideas, drew crowds that were fun to watch on C-span. Even Dean and his crew were surprised at the crowds he would draw. Dean said what many wanted to hear about the state of our Union.

Democrats are not ready for this route.....yet. But they will be if things do not change in this November's election. I fear this may be the last chance for this reincarnation of the Democratic Party. There will have to be a new birth if things do not change this November.

41. Hope it's alright to add more Molly
"I can’t see a damn soul in D.C. except Russ Feingold who is even worth considering for President. The rest of them seem to me so poisonously in hock to this system of legalized bribery they can’t even see straight

=======

Who are these idiots talking about Warner of Virginia? Being anodyne is not sufficient qualification for being President. And if there’s nobody in Washington and we can’t find a Democratic governor, let’s run Bill Moyers, or Oprah, or some university president with ethics and charisma.

=========

We can raise our own money on the Internet, and we know it. Howard Dean raised $42 million, largely on the web, with a late start when he was running for President, and that ain’t chicken feed. If we double it, it gives us the lock on the nomination. So let’s go find a good candidate early and organize the shit out of our side."

She is ranting and venting and speaking truth to power. Could it be the health problems her buddy Ann is having to deal with that is causing her to be so blunt.

42. An opposition party?
A party that would stand opposed to:

tyranny and fascism,

bribery and treason,

war mongering and profiteering,

torture and other methods of demeaning the human spirit.

Who would ever support this opposition party? What Americans would vote for such ideals?

Better off to just stick with the Dems. Better in the long run. They can teach us all their tricks, the ones that they use to pretend to themselves that these thing don't matter, are not happening, just be happy, don't worry. If we can just learn those tricks, the world will be spared. Or at least we will won't care so much about the Hell that is our making.

Any "leaders" listening?

How many time do we have to WARN you about taking our support for granted?

If you don't give us a good reason to vote FOR you, as opposed to just voting against the fascist REPUKES, they don't be surprised when we DON'T vote FOR you!

And you know what - don't blame US if the repukes win again - because it will fall squarely on YOUR spineless guttless asses - YOU will have only YOURSELVES to blame!

But go ahead, and scold us and threaten us into voting for you - like THAT will work - NOT!

65. Thank you, Molly

It's about time someone called Clinton out for what she really is. It's frustrating for me, a NYer, to have to be represented by someone who is so far removed from her constituents! From Iraq to Iran to gay marriage to Wal-Mart to everything else that's been mentioned in this discussion already, Clinton simply does not represent me or most NYers! That's why I'm hoping she gets the message loud and clear from voters now, not in 2008 - and why I'm supporting Jonathan Tasini in the Democratic primary.
