Help! Need a list of socially responsible companies
While preparing my taxes this year I was shocked and dismayed to realize that I hold stock from companies like Monsanto's, Coca Cola, Pfizer and Walmart. I am sure I own shares in other awful companies and I am ashamed that I haven't looked in to this before. I have called my financial advisor and requested that my funds be put in to socially responsible stocks and while I am waiting to hear back from them, I thought I would try to get a list of the big corporate offenders. So far, I haven't been able to find anything other than resources that allow you to research a specific company one at time.

Any DU'ers with some recommendations or advice? Thanks in advance for helping me to put my money where my mouth is. I plan to find out how much money I have made from these companies and donating to more worthy causes.

1. Check Rachel Maddow's web site
She had someone on this morning who just published a directory, similar to the Zagat guide for restaurants, that lists all kinds of information about various companies -- who they give political donations to, environmental factors, union friendliness, etc. Maybe Rachel has a link.

3. I am not an investor, nor do I feel especially qualified to give advice...
however, some of the reputable investment firms that deal with what you are speaking of (that I've heard of through reading) are Pax World Funds, Calvert Investments, and The Green Money Journal. Like I said, I am not an investor, this is just what I read through outlets such as Mother Jones, Mother Earth News and blog sites such as these.

Good luck!

From the consumer standpoint, I know people trust http://www.buyblue.org/
