Good night and get lost! Chris Matthews exhumes McCarthy
http://www.pnionline.com/dnblog/attytood/archives/002886.html

<snip>

Quickly, a confession -- we had thought some of the recent anti-Chris Matthews hysteria from our friends on the left was overblown. We thought many of the foolish things he says were the result of needing to bloviate for an hour every day, and not so much from warped political bias -- until we heard him Friday on the local Michael Smerconish show in Philly.

Ironically, the topic was the Oscars. Smerconish and Matthews -- whose brother is a GOP candidate for lieutenant governor here in Pennsylvania -- were running down the list, and they came to "Good Night and Good Luck." A casual listener might expect broadcaster Matthews -- who has pretty much the same job, if not the same gravitas, as Edward R. Murrow some fifty years later -- to praise the flick -- but think again. Here -- with an assist from Smerconish's producer, the fabulous T.C. Scornavacchi -- is what he really said (and you can listen to the actual clip here): http://pdn.philly.com/2006/03/matthews.mp3

You know, one-sided, to some extent liberal propaganda. Because you know there Communists – I’m sorry…there were Communists in the government…I could go through the whole list – Elizabeth Bentley, Harry Dexter White, and of course Alger Hiss – there’s a whole gaggle of them.

And the biggest nonsense of this sort of revisionist history is that there wasn’t a Communist threat and that McCarthy was just a drunken fool. Well, he may have been a drunk – he certainly was – and he may have been unable to shoot straight, but there were lots of targets there. He just didn’t hit any.

Hello, ditch.

3. So Matthews is trying to help his brother's candidacy in Pennsylvania by
buddying up to Smerconish who just HAPPENS to be a rightwing radio host in Philadelphia. Smerconish certainly has gotten alot of airtime on MSNBC lately.

Seems that Penn Dems should be howling about Matthews' tactics here and the blatant media machinations to help his brother.

6. Media Outrage is Draining Me
I go to Media Matters everyday to check up on the bullshit these assholes are saying now and it's getting worse.

The more Bush goes down in the polls, the propagand, lies and liberal bashing from the media goes up tremendously.

Nothing changes, they get worse.

We have only a handful of TV & print liberals & Air America who can't possibly keep up with exposing the right-wing pundit/writers. They have more people, more space, more time, more stations, more money.

8. A frickin MEN
it's simply astonishing, the lengths to which they'll go, isn't it?

they really will, and do, stop at nothing

absolutely nothing

I don't know what's more amazing: the extent and scope of their mendacity, or the sheer brazenness, as they know they can get away with saying anything, secure in the knowledge that, even when called on any lie, they can just keep on repeating it without paying ANY penalty whatsover

how many examples does one need?

Swiftboating of Kerry is merely the most obvious, unless, of course, one cares to go with the WMDs, or Cheney's repeated lies about Atta/Czech/Iraq connection.

the list is endless

9. har...did you see what Clooney had to say about that bit of 'casting?'
he said that lots of younger viewers, during previews, thought the guy who played McCarthy should get an Oscar nomination

they had no idea it was all newsreel clips
