Want fries with that?
When President Bush was in India he spoke of the many jobs outsourced there and how they were to create a middle class so that US goods could be sold to them improving our economy. US goods made in China. He also said that protectionism was not the answer, education was. He said that the US had to educate itself so that we could prepare ourselves for the next generation of jobs.

Okay, I'll bite. What are these new jobs that will take us into the next millennium? I went to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (http://www.bls.gov/emp/emptab3.htm ) to look at the fastest growing jobs for the next ten years. Of the 29 categories listed as fast growing the top four are:

1. Home health aids, up 56% categorized is "Very Low income" with short term on the job training.

2. Medical assistants, up 52% categorized as "Low income" with short term on the job training.

3. Computer software engineer, up 48% categorized as "High income" with a B.S. Degree.

4. Personal and home care aids, up 41% categorized as "Very Low income" with short term on the job training.

None of the OJT jobs require a high school diploma. Very low income is any income below $20,200/year. Low income is from $20,200 to $28,600. High income is from $28,600 to $43,600 and Very High income is anything above $43,600.

Of the 29 categories listed 18 are Low or Very Low income. Only 11 are considered as High or Very High.

80% of Bush's tax cuts go to incomes above $200,000, software engineering is being outsourced as fast as industry can make phone calls to India and the fastest growing jobs for the next decade don't even require a high school diploma.

No wonder Bush is cutting educational grants, student loans and increasing interest on student loans. It's obvious that there is no point in getting an education.

This is what Joe SixPack doesn't get. In my little neck of the woods, only doctors and lawyers and a few business owners make anything close to $200K.

5. It leaves you speechless......
With these great jobs that he is touting....

He forgot to mention the following...
-Basic cost of living is going through the roof...
-Food cost is going through the roof and US farmers are losing their farms everyday...
-These great jobs that are being created won't allow the possibility of owning a home
-Most of these jobs don't offer health insurance....
-Most of the people won't be able to afford a car so they will have to rely on city transportation and then when a disaster hits (they will be called lazy and dependent on handouts NOLA)

Lot's to look forward to in America's future!!

Great job GW!!!

8. Interesting observation, Maddie.
Another page on the site has the list of fastest declining jobs and farming is on that one. Most of the categories there are in the High and Very High incomes.

The US will become competitive and begin bringing jobs back home soon. As soon as our wage sinks to that of Mexico and China.

12. I really started paying attention to losing our farmers...
when I went into the Albertson's in the Seattle area and was going to buy some oranges....guess what they were from Australia.....

I try to only buy products grown in America and it is getting harder and harder....

These farmers from what I read are having a hard time getting retrained...in technology....but of course all of those jobs are being outsourced....

Sigh....

11. Red Head, that's about $40K a year. As the boomers begin to need
assisted care and more of them need home help we will see more of the poor elderly hiring at low wages. The poverty of the elderly will necessarily drive the wage down. This bodes very badly for those hiring unqualified and untrained people to help them. I see some major increase in abuse of the elderly coming up soon.

9. Other lists say MOST jobs will be in Retail Sales.
You'll be Lucky to get one of those 4 jobs listed above. Obviously, it would be a good idea to go into medicine.
